The hotel

The Knickerbocker Hotel is a historic gem right in the middle of New York City's Times Square. Opened back in 1906, this luxury spot has been a go-to for celebrities and big names over the years. It's famous for its stunning Beaux-Arts architecture. After being closed for a while and going through some changes, it made a grand comeback in 2015 with a major renovation. Now, it offers modern comforts while keeping its old-school charm.

Great Staff, from the greeting at the front door, to Reception to Restaurant staff. Truly 5 star service and all so quiet and calm-an oasis from the hustle and bustle outside. And well located-easily walkable to any midtown location Highly recommended for business trips

Whilst the hotel is of good quality and we had an enjoyable stay, I'm not sure it hits the 'luxury' level claimed. The room was perfectly clean, although not terribly large but the bed was really good, and the housekeeping was very good and efficient (as was reception), but what hurts is the ridiculous Resort Fee. This is "justified" to take account for the wifi (which went down for several hours one morning), water in the room (really??), and the gym. Given I expect most people who stay do not step foot in the gym, its hard to accept these "reasons". I knw this seems to be the norm in the US, but it still seems like a way of adding to the fees for no good reason. Also, oddly no tea/coffee making facilities either in the room. The location is however great, right by Times Square, so ideal for theatres and plenty of restaurants and bars, but still nice and quiet (we had an inside room which was fine). We were able to check in a little early and as we were celebrating our anniversary and a birthday, they did provide some treats and food/beverage vouchers as well (eased the pain of the ridiculous Resort Fee). We thought however, the price was on the high side and it didn't really hit the 'luxury' level claimed, but it was all very clean and the staff helpful and pleasant. We didn't eat there, but the cafe on the ground floor was ok....even if it was expensive (2 coffees and a danish and a roll came to $33, but NY is very expensive). The rooftop bar was lovely, waiting staff really helpful, good cocktails and blankets were provided for the evening chill. All in all, I'm not sure we'd say we got great value for money, as you don't spend much time in the hotel, but it was in a great location. Read less

It's a block off of Time's Square, and the subway is essentially on-site. We were able to cover a ton of ground walking, or catching a quick subway ride and then walking. We had a third floor room facing Time's Square (though not a great view) and I will say, it was LOUD at all hours (hey, it is NYC afterall! Part of the experience ;) ). The staff was super helpful, and our room was always soo clean. We had a drink our first night at the rooftop bar, and enjoyed it. They had the entrance to the bar and one of the doors to the outdoor patio roped off, which was pretty awkward. They would rope drop to allow you to move through, but just felt kind of unnecessary. Overall, we had an amazing time and I'd highly recommend to anyone. Read less

Great team! The associates were always very friendly and attentive, and treated every guest like VIPs. I plan on staying here again, and would definitely recommend the Knickerbocker to others. It's in a perfect location between Times Square and Bryant Park; close enough for a short walk to both, but far enough to avoid the crowds and the noise.
