The hotel

The clue’s in the name — The Sanctuary Hotel is a haven in its own right. If you're on a couples city break, or a girls weekend away, this is a great option (particularly if you're a bit of a foodie!). From a sushi restaurant and rooftop cocktail bar, to richly detailed rooms, you’ll be spoilt for choice with where to spend some down-time. Make the most of the complimentary breakfast each morning, and be fully-fuelled to spend the day exploring the Big Apple. You’ll even have the hotel’s S.T.A.R concierge on hand for ‘Service Tailored to Any Request’, so you can (quite literally) make this your very own sanctuary.

Where is it

On West 47th Street, 2 blocks from Times Square and 5th Avenue where it meets Broadway. Theatres, the Rockefeller Centre, St Patricks Cathedral and Fifth Avenue Shops are all within walking distance. Transfer time from John F. Kennedy International Airport: 50 minutes.

Hotel information

113 compact rooms, all with air-conditioning, HD flat-screen TV, iHome stereo and docking station, safe, mini-bar*, hairdryer, bathrobes, and bathroom amenities.

Superior Queen Rooms are approximately 210-225 sq ft and feature either courtyard or city views, with 1 queen-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults. 

Please note: some rooms may have restricted views of the courtyard or city. 

Deluxe King Rooms are more spacious at 315-325 sq ft with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults or 2 adults and 1 child (rollaway bed is available for an additional fee).

Deluxe Double Double Rooms are as above, but with 2 double beds, sleeping maximum 4 people.

Complimentary daily continental breakfast which includes coffee, juice, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, and breakfast breads. Haven Rooftop Restaurant and Bar (open for brunch, lunch and dinner) with evening entertainment and cocktails. Sushi Lab Rooftop (open for lunch and dinner). Chemistry Room Restaurant (intimate dining experience with tasting menu, open for dinner). Sushi by Bou (modern sushi speakeasy bar, open for lunch and dinner). 2 lounge bars.

Great location, the most wonderful service, rooms just a little small. Breakfast exactly as advertised. Would recommend. Location is great just a few steps away from Times Square. This is a great boutique hotel, a real alternative to the many huge franchise hotels in the area.

Just got back from a family holiday at The Sanctuary, New York, Times square. The hotels location is superb, a stone thrown away from Times square. Breakfast, hmmm well, let's say it's minimal. But I guess to start you on your day it's ok. Tea, coffee, Toast, bagels, croissants, cereal and Apples/bananas. Nothing hot or fancy All the staff were amazing and we're very efficient. Be aware that you need to give a security deposit of $300 when checking into the hotel and you are charged $34 per day per room for??? I'm not sure why this isn't included in the price of the hotel, seeing as it's not cheap in the first place. However, a very positive stay had and I would stay here again. Read less

I would like to mention how wonderful the staff was at the hotel when we were there. I really want to point out one person that worked there named .DELVIS. He was phenomenal!! I would like to mention how wonderful the staff was at the hotel when we were there. I really want to point out one person that worked there named .DELVIS. He was phenomenal!! On the checkout day, there was a big bike race, and one of the streets was closed so he set up a taxi service and helped carry our big suitcases about two blocks down the street amongst many people. Customer service was definitely the best part of my stay at this hotel. Thank you to Vincent and Vutha, the 2 doormen who were hospitable and helpful in making recommendations for my boyfriend and me. We stayed at the hotel a couple of times back in January and I only now had the time to leave this review. Thank you again! Hope to see you soon.

The doorman immediately took our cases and introduced us to Spencer on reception who even though we were very early about 09٫30. the doorman (forgot his name) put our suitcases into storage then lead us into the breakfast area for breakfast which again we didn't expect. All the staff were very good and informative even down to telling us where the best pizza place was. 4 days in New York made even better by all the staff no matter what time of day, coffee & fresh water on tap in reception.
