The hotel

Legend lives on at The Peabody, Memphis’s grandest address. Deep in the downtown district, it’s just blocks from the relics of rock ‘n’ roll and blues that made Memphis famous, including Beale Street, Gibson Guitar Factory, Sun Studio, and Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum. Its most famous residents arrived in 1933, when the General Manager put his hunting decoy ducks in the fountain after a tipple or two of Tennessee whiskey. In 1940, a circus trainer taught them to ‘march’ and they still perform twice a day for guests (needless to say, duck isn’t on the menu here). That’s not the only custom that lives on, there’s the Peabody Afternoon Tea, the extravagant Sunday Brunch, and the simple tradition of indulgence, with the 5 restaurants and bars, Grecian-style pool and whirlpool, summertime rooftop parties, and Feathers Spa.

464 rooms and suites. All featuring 42” flatscreen TV with premium cable channels, complimentary WiFi access, smartphone dock alarm clock, motion sensor floor lighting, safe, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, and bathrobes.

Traditional Rooms have 1 queen-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 people.

Superior Rooms are located on floors 4-11, and have either 1 king-size bed or 2 double beds, sleeping maximum 4 people.

Deluxe Rooms are slightly more spacious, with 2 double beds, sleeping maximum 4 people.

Executive Rooms have a sitting area, large closet and bathroom with dressing area, and are located away from elevators and vending areas, with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 people.

Capriccio Grill (Italian steakhouse, open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch). Chez Philippe (classic French cuisine, open for afternoon tea and dinner Thurs - Sun). Peabody Corner Bar (serving drinks and bar bites, with regular live music). Lobby Bar (serving drinks and light bites). Peabody Deli & Desserts (deli and bakery). Room service*.

Daily rooftop parties from April to August. Live music from 4.00-7.00pm every Thursday and Friday in the Peabody Corner Bar. Daily happy hour.

The Peabody Athletic Club (grecian-style heated indoor pool, whirlpool, and fitness centre). Feathers Spa*. Peabody Duck March (in hotel lobby, daily at 11:00am and 5:00pm).

This was probably the most friendly and warm staff. Everyone from the Bellman to the Manager always smiled and greeted you as you approached.

However as numerous reviews our experience at check in & customer service was extremely poor even rude. We were 2 ladies travelling together our room was a queen size bed & the most smallest bathroom. I went down to reception & requested a twin room which was sourly told the hotel was full so after I asked was told could try again tomorrow to see if a room available by a very uninterested Diamond On reception .. she certainly wasn’t, I contacted and sent pictures of room to our travel agent & that evening asked again & was told there was another room but the manner & care was total disinterest .. we moved rooms & on check out I said for future reference it would have been nice to have been asked were we happy with our new room .. another receptionist just looked at me .. & blankly smiled .. I think some training on customer service is in order. I would not recommend the hotel due to the room conditions & reception staff attitude. Read less

Such fun staying in this historic hotel for a conference. Service and friendliness of staff were amazing. Even had a view of the mighty Mississippi from my ninth floor window. The initial room that I had smelled like a mix of cigarettes and mold. The manager the next day fixed the issue and upgraded me to a bigger room. Overall, it is the Peabody and is a legendary hotel. They just need to live up to the expectations.
