Hotel Monteleone

New Orleans, Louisiana

Star rating

The hotel

This is not just one of New Orleans finest hotels, this is a film set – movies such as Double Jeopardy with Tommy Lee Jones and The Last Time with Michael Keaton have been filmed here. It has been said, time and time again, that the French Quarter begins in the lobby of the Monteleone and it truly does, capturing the very essence of what makes New Orleans so very special. A member of the Historic Hotels of America, you will adore your stay here, revelling in a grandeur only the Deep South can provide, and traditional decor within your room that adds a timeless touch to your stay. However, the hotel has also recently renovated rooms within the Iberville Tower if you are looking for some calmer colours. Admire stunning views from the sundeck surrounding the rooftop swimming pool, a truly blissful place to chill out, cocktail in hand and a good book beside you. At night, your starting point should be the Carousel Bar & Lounge - this has been the most celebrated bar in New Orleans since 1949, and it's still spinning, quite literally. Don't worry, the rotation is very subtle so you can still enjoy your classic cocktail at ease!

We have been staying there off and on since 1998. The famous Carousel Bar and delightful Criollo Restaurant offer equally epic experiences. Our last morning there, we had breakfast at the Criollo. We had the great pleasure of being served by Kathy, a long time restaurant employee. She was the best, as was the food. Can’t recommend the entire establishment highly enough. Read less

Lovely room, spacious, clean and well equipped. Doormen very helpful unlike the reception staff, Room service menu limited. They charged again for the room which we had already paid for and left it to us to sort out the mess with our own bank. Beautiful hotel shame about the administration of accounts.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Hotel Monteleone recently for business. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and represents the history of New Orleans so well. It's nearly 140 years old and has stunning architectural details but also has all the modern conveniences. It is also famous for its revolving carousel bar. The hospitality is top notch and every person I interacted with at the hotel was a consummate professional. But of all the treasures at the Monteleone, one in particular stood out the most for me... Mr. Earl Perkins. Mr. Perkins is one of their Transportation Specialists, and he was the first face to greet us as we arrived in guest parking and the last face as we departed. He took such great care of us and shared some of the real history of the Monteleone with us...and he should know because he's been there 59 years!!! Mr. Perkins is a true ambassador of this hotel and meeting him was the highlight of my stay. I highly recommend the Hotel Monteleone and when you go please find Mr. Perkins... you will not be disappointed. Read less

We had a “standard” king room during Jazz Fest; that translated to $470/night for a somewhat worn room with no view, an old but passable shower and an HVAC system that struggled to get below 73 Fahrenheit. The Lobby was often filled with really elderly Viking Cruise customers doing a 2 day pre or post cruise experience. Service was fine and… Read more

The Lobby was often filled with really elderly Viking Cruise customers doing a 2 day pre or post cruise experience. Service was fine and evenings/nights in the room tended to be quiet. Location was excellent for upscale dining in the Business District and French Quarter and for Jazzfest transportation. The in-house restaurant may be the best in the city for breakfast, brunch or lunch: definitely head and shoulders above Brennan’s and Cafe Amelie. We did not partake of the two main attractions of the hotel, the roof top pool and the Carousel Bar due to our music and dining plans. Read less

This is a great historic hotel in a very convenient location, set a block from Bourbon Street in a pretty street with plenty of eateries and antique shops. The staff were friendly and helpful. A special thank you to Michael in the lobby for great food and sightseeing recommendations! I'll seek out Hotel Monteleone on my next visit to New Orleans.
