The Drake Hotel is in the finest location in Chicago, situated at the very tip of the Magnificent Mile Neighbourhood, and located right in front of Oak Street Beach overlooking Lake Michigan. It hasn’t lost any of the glitz or traditions which drew in Chicago’s glitterati for its grand opening on New Year’s Eve in 1920, and in the decades which followed. It still hosts High Tea, with its delicate petit fours and fragrant teas now served in the appropriately decadent Palm Court. You can still dine (and drink) at Coq d’Or, the city’s second venue to get that all-important liquor license after Prohibition ended in 1933. A milestone on The Magnificent Mile, with direct access Lake Michigan’s Oak Street Beach, be prepared for drama, history and luxury.

The history and architecture of the hotel is amazing. Joey Laso was so well versed on all the history of the hotel, and truly was a delight with an abundance of information. I will definitely be visiting the Drake again. Joey’s personality shines when he is talking about The Drake.

At the Drake I enjoyed the hotels historical backstory and great hospitality, Daphne from Hgv let me know on the promotions for my Hilton account and even though I didn’t get one I still felt very informed and for the future whenever I do have the chance to take a gate away.

Outward appearance was great. Nice ambiance but very dated hotel. Our room(s) needed TLC. Missing furniture, doors had chipped paint, bathroom doors wouldn't stay closed, etc... The beds and pillows are the worst for a luxury hotel. The pillows were non existent at best. The bed mattress moved and dipped in the middle - just horrible! Why twin beds? Switched rooms thinking the first room was just a fluke - not at all! The second room, although brighter was odd and had missing furniture (not the set up in the "Mgmt-type stock picutres" (misleading). The bar was speakeasy-ish. The disappointing part was our Waiter who was more of a Server with a lack of knowledge and enthusiasm for the cocktails. The signature Snapper soup was tasty. The pretzel was impressive looking but not very flavorful. The dips helped. Honorable mention - Chris the valet member was welcoming and personable from the very moment we walked onto the property even opening the doors for us ~ Thank you! So many luxury properties in Chicago - I don't think this one is top of the list. Read less
