The hotel

You’ll feel relaxed as soon as you walk through the door of the Harbor View Inn, Santa Barbara. Once the friendly staff have welcomed you to their Spanish villa-style retreat, it’s time to really chill out. Head to the oceanfront heated pool where you can relax with a cocktail, or the beach is just over the road if you prefer the ocean waves. Just returned from 3 nights in Santa Barbara and we specifically chose the Harbor View Inn because of the reviews and the location. The staff are all very attentive and helpful and they make sure you are greeted every time you leave and return. There isn't a restaurant onsite but Jeannines restaurant is next door and the food and service are excellent. Breakfast and Lunch only. We booked an Ocean View King Suite and we enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and very spacious. Double sink and large deep tub. The shower is in a separate little room along with the toilet. The shower is pretty small and a plus-size person may find it a bit confining. The toilet is lower than normal and those with weak quadriceps will have a tough time getting up. However, both issues were not a problem for us. The large balcony looks out to the ocean and Sterns Wharf. Cabrillo street is right in front of the hotel and it can get a bit noisy which could make using the balcony unsettling for those who relish the quiet. Early mornings are the best balcony times - quiet and cool. The rooms are pretty well insulated and although there is street noise, it was tolerable for us inside the room. We won't hesitate choosing the Harbor View Inn again for our next trip to Santa Barbara Read less

Stayed two nights recently from May 23-35 at the HBI. Another spectacular stay with perfect weather. This property is so well located and the service levels are just superb, thanks to Cameron at the front desk and Berenice handling sales and marketing. These two are the superstars of HBI. THANK YOU again for another memorable stay.

Wonderful hotel right on the beach and in the heart of downtown SB. Classic Santa Barbara vibe throughout-accommodations were better than expected. We were greeted with our choice of a local bottle of wine for our anniversary and given an upgraded room since they were not fully booked. Staff couldn't be more gracious while we were there...especially Aaron, who went out of his way to make sure we were being well taken care of. Keep that guy around!! Pool, gym, outdoor seating areas, and the covered parking are all nice perks in staying here. We upgraded to an ocean front suite which was very spacious with a large patio. Rooms were updated and very clean. We were in the main building off the lobby which gave us the amazing ocean view. However, given that you are on the main road that parallels the ocean, and traffic is quite busy, if you want some quite time, I would recommend the newer North Tower that is a couple block back further on State Street which is less noisy with traffic. All in all, we will most definitely be coming back on our next visit! Read less

When I found the new date I called the hotel to change my reservation and instead of handeling it on the phone as any other hotel would have done ( I made the reservation directly with the Hotel Website not a third party) they directed me back to their website with instructions which I had thought I had done correcty and apparantly I may have missed a step. They enede up charging me for my new reservation without telling me until I saw my statement and refused to give any consideration to assist me in the transfer of my original deposit over to my new stay as I requested. I have stayed all over the world and have never seen this level of 0 willingness to support me with this. Too bad and I will never be staying there again, so beware.... Read less

Reserved a king corner room for a 3-day weekend in SB to celebrate my wife's birthday. The HVI is located across from the beach and wharf, close to both State Street and the Funk Zone, sitting on Mission Creek. Great location. The check-in process was quick, Cameron (front desk) was great in offering options to consider for breakfast and lunch (we already had dinner plans). Parking was simple. The room was lovely - a corner room, with steps going down to the room floor. The bath had a rain shower and a tub for two. The L'Occitane amenities were welcome. The towels were lush. The environment was clean and calming. The primary room had a wet bar with a mini-fridge, a Keurig with supplies, and other amenities. The king bed was comfortable, with great pillows and sheets. The overhead fan was also quiet. A writing desk and chair, a large sitting chair, and an on-wall flat screen TV (not a smart TV) completed the room. We had a balcony with 2 chairs and small table overlooking the parking lot, Mission Creek, and the businesses on State Street. We did not go to the pool and hot tub (cooler than expected and we had other plans) or to the gym. Both appeared online to be very functional. Overall, we found this property to be a good value in an expensive room rate market. The staff was great, with multiple supervisors checking on our room satisfaction and the frontline staff paying attention to the details. Would recommend the HVI for any future stay. Read less
