Transport yourself back in time and stay at the elegant Westgate Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter. Brimming with decadent furniture, the rooms here are some of the largest in the city, and designed to meet the high standards of European hospitality - so you'll certainly feel at home! If you're visiting between Thursday and Sunday, afternoon high tea in the Grand Lobby is a must. And on these evenings there's a host of live music to be enjoyed in the evenings too, be it out on the Veranda on balmy evenings, or in the Plaza Bar (where you can enjoy it with some delicious light bites and cocktails). The hotel is close to the famous Balboa Park, you can even see it from some of the rooms, and the area has plenty of restaurants, bars and boutiques. Back at the hotel, leave time to enjoy a bit of relaxation at the rooftop pool or in the sauna - the AquaVie fitness and wellness centre spans 4 levels offering a range of classes and treatments to have you feeling rejuvenated.

Of all the Stay in United States, this is one of the most best hotels that you can visit. They have a high class staff David, who sits at the front desk is fantastic. His supervisor or manager Miss Sarah is also phenomenal. They are two of the classiest people that I’ve ever met in the hotel industry and I’ve been flying for over 30 years. The rooms are great Gives you that old school Victorian feel. One of the main reasons why I choose this route not because I love San Diego but because I love the hotel and the people that staff it keep up the high-quality work. Read less

Ivan gave amazing friendly service, and also gave us ideas for where to take phoros and good angle ideas. He is very nice, and does his job very well. When we all checked in, the other lady was also very nice too, but I didnt get her name. We also got great front desk service.
Good hotel in a great location, but avoid rooms that face onto C-Street

There are so many good things about this hotel. It is in a very convenient location - relatively short walks to the Gas Lamp Quarter, conference centre, USS Midway, waterfront, etc, plus there is bus stop right outside on Broadway that will take you to and from San Diego Airport with buses every 15 minutes for $2٫50 (May 2025). See MTS in San Diego. We stayed in a deluxe room with a super comfy king bed - possibly the most comfortable hotel bed/pillows/linen I’ve had. The room was big, as was the bathroom. The hotel is a bit ‘faded bling’, but nice enough. The hotel staff were lovely too. The one downside for me is the noise from the trolley cars that impacts hotel rooms that face north onto C-Street. The trolley system runs east and west along C-Street with a trolley stop located between the hotel and the Civic Centre across the street. On weekdays the first trolley arrives at 4٫18 in the morning as it woke me up. They run frequently (every few minutes both eastbound and westbound in the peak) until around midnight. The issue is that each and every trolley sounds their horn twice when departing the Civic Centre trolley stop. Why MTS feel that’s sensible in a built up area from four in the morning only they will know. It is the same for each stop on the network from what I could tell walking around San Diego. So if you are a light sleeper (like me) you soon lie awake waiting to hear the sound of the next of the many trolley cars approaching, decelerating, stopping, honking their horns twice then accelerating away as you then wait for the next one to come along and interrupt your sleep in the small hours of the morning. This isn’t of the Westgate Hotel’s making of course. So unless you collect trolley numbers (some do I am sure) or you are sufficiently hearing impaired, make sure you get a room that is not looking out onto C-Street. Otherwise I really enjoyed our stay at the Westgate. Read less
