The hotel

As synonymous with Boston as the eponymous tea party and cream pie, Hilton Boston Park Plaza has been a landmark on the city’s hotel circuit since it opened 90 years ago. Reinterpreted for the 21st century traveller with a $100 million mega-makeover, it now adds contemporary décor and mod-cons to its timeless elegance. And you’re in good company, with all bar two US Presidents staying here since it opened. It’s easy to see why, with a top-drawer location near Boston Common. Of course, they wouldn’t all have experienced today’s attractions, which include a mammoth 20000 SF Health Club, the nightly cocktail hour (well 5 hours) in the Library, and the New England inspired dining of its Off the Common restaurant, with Boston’s signature lobster rolls a menu favourite.

And it is a real bummer because most hotels don’t have and do not offer microwaves in your room you have to go either to the lobby to use one or to another floor. While checking into the Park Plaza the receptionist asked if we would like a microwave brought to our rooms without us even asking. I was shocked and elated all at the same time. I go up to my room and not even ten minutes later Rajan is knocking on the door with my microwave. Normally when something is being sent up to your room in an hotel it takes at least 30 minutes or so for someone to bring it to you. Rajan was very kind and helpful. He put the microwave in my room set it up and made sure that it was working before he left. He even wiped it down before setting it up. I am extremely grateful to have had such an amazing experience. This is a lovely hotel right by the Boston Commons. The service is very good. For example, I asked for tea kettle, and Ranjan promptly brought me a tea kettle. There's also a large gym in the basement which I like. It's a bona fide gym with classes. Many hotels have a little room with like two treadmills and they call it their exercise room. This… Read more

This is totally different. This hotel has a very large floor filled with gym equipment. It's very nice. Read less

The room was in rough shape: peeling wallpaper, a worn-out tub, and a loud commercial-style toilet. The whole space felt more like a budget motel than a Hilton. Even small things were off, no coat rack, no door seals, and the only painting was oddly placed behind a lamp. The air conditioning was a major issue. It didn’t work when we arrived, and… Read more

Even small things were off, no coat rack, no door seals, and the only painting was oddly placed behind a lamp. The air conditioning was a major issue. It didn’t work when we arrived, and after several uncomfortable nights and a call to the front desk, we were given a fan. Only later did maintenance turn on the coolant (no idea why it was off), and even then, it took two more days to cool the room. The amenities were equally disappointing. The convenience store had outrageous prices with no visible pricing, forcing me to ask the cashier about everything. We were charged a resort fee that included a daily $15 dry cleaning credit (enough to clean one shirt) that you couldn’t roll it over for one dry cleaning day. There were no laundry facilities on-site either, so I ended up going to a laundromat down the street. The only real positives were the blackout curtains and the water fill station, small perks that I did appreciate. Read less

This is an unprecedented step for me on several fronts: I rarely, if ever, write reviews; and, I have never written a review about a property I have yet to visit. How, you ask, can that be the case? One reason: KIARA CORREIA! I was having some issues with my booking, and my phone call landed in Kiara's ear. Kiara, with her ultra pleasant… Read more

One reason: KIARA CORREIA! I was having some issues with my booking, and my phone call landed in Kiara's ear. Kiara, with her ultra pleasant attitude, did not hesitate to accommodate every one of my needs and answer all my questions. My upcoming stay undoubtedly will be exceptional because of a first-rate manager by the name of Kiara Correia. I have nothing but gratitude for her top-notch service. Hilton executives, do me a favor: Promote Kiara immediately! Read less

When I entered my room, I noticed the fridge was not working. This is imparative to my stay as I travel with food on me for long trips. I called and requested a new fridge. Ranjan was very speedy in arriving with the fridge replacement. Very nice and comforting.
