The hotel

Thailand’s first luxury tented jungle camp, Elephant Hills, combines the camp aspect of an East African safari with the Thai tropical rainforest. Located in Khao Sok National Park, Elephant Hills is just a couple of hours north of Phuket or Krabi and with complimentary transfers from most beach hotels in the region, it’s an easy combination and an unmissable experience. We are proud to support the unique elephant experience where you can feed and interact with these magnificent creatures, an award-winning programme that puts elephant welfare, education and conservation at the heart of what they do.

We travelled by speed boat and long boat We saw amazing scenery and experienced the mangroves But the highlight was interacting with the elephants What a privilege to spend time with these intelligent…and naughty!…animals and to know that they won’t have tourists riding on them or bathing with them A truly memorable experience Read less

The amazing part of Elephant Hills however was the elephant experience and the lake camp. Staying on the lake in the middle of the national park is an experience we will always remember. The elephant experience where we got to feed and pet the elephants is likewise makes this place special. The guides looked after us and made our time here some of the best few days I have ever had. I cannot recommend this place enough. It might not be for everyone, those used to 5-star hotels in the middle of a big city might find it not to their taste, but for those with a more adventurous temperament there isn't a better choice of holiday. We opted for 2 nights, 1 at the Elephant Hills camp and the 2nd staying on the lake at Khao Sok national park. Firstly, staying in tents when it's 35C during the day is what you'd expect - warm! There's no getting away from it. Seeing the elephants and feeding them is amazing but, keep in mind that you only spend about 1 - 2 hours around them in total to protect their welfare, which is fair enough. Our stay at the Elephant Hills camp felt a bit disorganised. We arrived at the tail end of lunch and there wasn't a great deal of food left. I have a food intolerance so was given a card I could use to check with staff...only there wasn't anyone around to ask. There wasn't a bed setup in our tent for my daughter on arrival, the fan in our tent didn't oscillate and, while we were promised snacks when we got back from seeing the elephants (they're a short bus ride away) by the time we got back everything had gone. Our second night at Khao Sok was very different. It's about a 1hr boat ride out to a secluded area on the lake. It felt much calmer, more peaceful and better organised. Food was plentiful and the staff went out of their way to ensure I was catered for. We also had 2 fans in our tent which oscillated properly. We particularly liked access to canoes and paddle boards. You can join an organised paddle on the canoes or go by yourself. We enjoyed ourselves so much we decided to do both. Our tour guide, Pearl, was brilliant. She always had a smile on her face, had vast knowledge of the area and wildlife and her ability to spot wild animals at a distance was incredible. Read less

Learning how to cook Thai dishes was a highlight for me. The luxury tent was comfy, spacious, clean and well aired with fans. Impressive bathroom! Cannot recommend enough if you visit Thailand. Yes it’s humid but there are plenty of fans. Expect Kayaking, hiking, swimming, speed boats and the very impressive Elephants 🐘 to feed and watch bathing in the pond. Obviously you can sunbathe and relax if you don’t wish to take part in all activities but we recommend them for sure. Tip: Take cash as they do not accept card. Read less

If a jungle adventure is what you are after with a dash of luxury then Elephant Hills sanctuary is for you. It is glamping at its finest with lots of activities, cultural experiences and Elephants. It's not the cheapest place but the quality is top notch. The staff are friendly with a great group of guides to help you along. You can stay 1, 2, or 3 nights with the longer stay including a night at the lake camp, swimming from your tent is a treat. The best feature is the ethical treatment of the elephants. They are not trained nor do they perform but you do get to feed them. The camp looks after rescue elephants that cannot return to the wild. We really enjoyed our time at this fine establishment Read less
