The hotel

Not just a hotel, Zilwa Attitude is more of an experience, embracing the life of the islanders. With a relaxed village feel, it is packed with authentic Mauritian experiences so you’ll truly feel like one of the natives after a week or two here. In a beautiful location, overlooking endless stretches of sandy beach and with stunning views of no less than five islands, it is a slice of heaven. Just a few minutes away by boat, or a short paddle, is Grand Zil where you can while away a few hours on a lounger and perhaps tuck in to a barbecue lunch — or enjoy a rejuvenating massage on the smaller Ti Zil. Rooms are inspired from traditional seaside bungalows and are contemporary in design but rustic too with rough white-washed walls and brushed cement floors. Embracing bright colours, there's a choice of room types, as well as family rooms, apartments and suites by the sea. Book a treatment at the world-class spa and take some time to chill on a day bed in the relaxation garden whilst listening to the twitter of birdsong. As you kick back, the little ones will be kept happy at the kids' club, with a fun garden, a games room and a large boat to explore and escape the sun ! There are seven restaurants at Zilwa, offering cuisines from European to Creole, Indian and Asian, and the All Inclusive dine-around experience means you can discover wonderful varied meals each day of your stay.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday staying at the Zilwa Attitude hotel. We had a wonderful experience, it's pure paradise! We were very lucky, I think we had one of the best rooms in the complex. Room 3114 had a magical beachfront view! The room was a good size, plenty of clothes storage, comfortable bed, quiet, good supply of hot water and a good sized shower. The hotel makes a big point about sustainability! They don't provide sachets of tea or coffee in the room; to cut down on waste you need to collect jars of the products from a central store. This also applies to drinking water in your room, they provide glass bottles which you replace once empty, cutting down on single use plastics. The hotel is just one of 8 eco-committed hotels and it shows! When you walk into the hotel you are greeted by a wonderful view of the reception, bars, pools and the Indian Ocean, WOW!! In the evenings, there was a choice of 7 a la carte restaurants and a buffet. We couldn't fault the food, it was exceptional and extremely well presented on the plate. You could tell that the lady who cleaned our room BABIDE(?) cared about her work, it was carried out with a smile and attention to detail. The bar service was fantastic, particularly SATYAM, AVISH AND NIRAJ who looked after us very well! They provided an attentive service, they were cheerful, entertaining (especially the cocktail shaking) and often suggesting different cocktails for us to try. STEPHANE, the waitress also worked very hard at attending to guests needs. As well as the Siro Kann bar, we often had soft drinks or sun downers at the Lor Disab - Pirogue Bar, nothing better than having drinks on the beach front. There was entertainment most evenings at the Siro Kann bar, which we enjoyed, especially the local cultural shows. Some tips: 1) take beach shoes, the sea bed has sharp coral and it is quite shallow. We often saw people coming out of the water with cut feet or legs. You can borrow shoes at the Beach Hut, but they may not have your size. 2) the hotel was full of families, especially with young children. If you are a couple travelling without children, you might find this overwhelming! 3) take advantage of the free water sports at the Beach Hut. We took kayaks out and a hobbycat several times and saw others with paddle boards and windsurfing. We also went snorkelling, the team take a small group out to an area of coral about 15 minutes away. It was wonderful! 4) have a bbq or two at Grand Zil; a deserted island close to the hotel. There are regular shuttles across. Remember to book at Guest Services in advance. 5) we joined in with a catamaran trip, ran by the hotel, to snorkel around some mangroves at Amber Island; the water was too cloudy when we were there. The bbq was great on board, well cooked and a good selection of salads. Afterwards, we motored over to L'ilot Bernache, a remote island only accessible by boat. It was so lovely, however it had a lot of plastic waste on the shoreline. We gathered up what we could and took it back to the catamaran. Take a bag to collect the waste! 6) pre-book the a la carte restaurants, they get very busy! Read less

Three other ladies that stood out by making me extra special were Noreena( thai restaurant- sorry if I got the name wrong) , Miranda and Saweeta (main restaurant). The later one is a hostess that remembers all her guests and goes beyond to make you feel special. That said I congratulate the whole team and sorry if I haven’t included all in this post. Lots of love to you all xx Read less

We have just returned from this hotel and have mostly a positive review. The views as you enter are breathtaking and the grounds are maintained beautifully. The facilities are clean and as expected from a four star property. The staff are one of their biggest asset with special mentions to SILVANO and the activities team. Their morning Aqua class is great fun and led brilliantly by their energy and enthusiasm! The beach bar service provided by LENSLEY is fantastic, his personality is infectious and service impeccable. The bar team are always smiling and efficient and both NIRAJ and SATYAM are a credit to their profession. On the whole the food was good but the evening options in the buffet restaurant could vary a bit more than it did and more live cooking stations would help that. Our favourite spot for lunch was the beach restaurant and the BBQ on the island is a definite must do! Our only other criticism would be that areas that are identified as adults only should be that and not ignored. I appreciate this is a family friendly hotel are there are adult only options in the same brand but we thought there would be less children than there were and areas dedicated for adults only. Something the management team should consider if considering changes in the future. There are a lot of areas that could accommodate that. Read less

Tropical paradise, a beach holiday we will never forget. The resort is so well run and designed to fulfil all your island holiday dreams. Rooms, facilities, staff, food, beach and pools... to mention a few. Special mention to Sobrun, Kelvin, Danny and the bar team for taking such good of us... I would go back any time.
