The hotel

As if this hotel wasn't luxurious enough already, the recent renovations have taken Sandals Royal Bahamian to another level - and they're ready to welcome you back to experience everything new they have to offer. The swim-up suites are the standout room type at this property, allowing you to step right from the comfort of your room straight into a gently flowing river pool with views of the ocean ahead. The Island Village offers privacy and romance and; as with all Sandals properties; the butler service will leave you not having to lift a finger. The real highlight of this Sandals hotel is the private offshore island - just jump on a Love runner and you'll be there in 5 minutes. It's basically a resort in itself, complete with beach club, pool, swim-up bar and spa experiences. Paradise: found and included. When you are feeling a bit more adventurous, there are a host of activities included in your stay so you can work up an appetite. You'll be spoilt for choice when you do get hungry though, with 10 gourmet restaurants and 2 food trucks - you'll have to make sure you stay long enough to ensure you try them all!

Many were rude while others made you feel like you were imposing in their space! But there was a few that were up to the Sandals quality. The food was moderate and inconsistent. Entertainment at night was excellent. We will never go back just because of the staffs attitude. It really was a horrible experience considered what you pay and excpect. Going back to Sandals DunnRiver. Excelent all the way around. Probably beacuse the manager mingles with guests while checking on the ficilitys welfare. I give this manage 2 thumbs up for being an asset to the Sandals orginization. Read less

The resort was beautiful, the were really friendly and helpful, and we liked the layout of our room and the amenities provided in it. The food wasn't anything the rave about, but we aren't complaining either. We didn't have anything from the various restaurants that we didn't enjoy. :) I must say that we did very much enjoy Butch's Restaurant. In fact, we dined there twice. My favorite memories was the Romantic Dinner for 2 that we had on the beach, snorkeling, wind sailing on one of the rafts, and the beauty that we were surrounded by. Me and my husband thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely go back in a heartbeat! (I can't leave out the fact that we had three amazing butlers that took care of our every request and continually made recommendations that would enhance our stay. Our Rolls Royce driver was amazing too!) Read less

My wife and I just completed a 4 night club level stay to celebrate our anniversary. We both had a good time during our first experience at a Sandals resort and would certainly return, but there is some room for improvement. First, the biggest compliment I can give is regarding the staff. Nearly everyone that we interacted with during our stay, from concierge, to shuttle drivers, to the aqua center and restaurant employees and even managers, was extremely friendly and helpful. Almost across the board, with only one or two minor exceptions, and considering the number of staff we interacted with, this was quite impressive. The property itself is beautiful and clean and the ocean is beyond gorgeous. Our room was very adequate, with our only complaints being that the mattress could have been more comfortable and our balcony was oddly lacking any sort of table. We also would point out that the “ocean view” description of our room was pretty misleading. Being on the second floor, our view of the pool and many palm trees was exceptional but the ocean? We could literally only see slivers of it through the trees. This was not a huge issue for us, but if you truly desire an ocean view, I would make sure you are on the third floor or higher. I would say our biggest disappointment was in regards to the inconsistency of the food quality. While we certainly had several great meals (dinners at Butch’s, La Plume and Queens Pearl, along with lunch at Arelia House and the pizza at Tesoro were highlights), we also had a few meals that were not very good (multiple lunches at Calicos were most notable). I would add, while neither of us are big drinkers, the few drinks that we did have were exceptional. Another issue we would point out was regarding the towels on the offshore island. Because of our short stay, we only got to visit once. Just before entering the line for the ferry transport, we attempted to grab a couple of beach towels from the main pool area to take with us (there were plenty available). A staff member asked if we were heading to the island and when we answered yes, he asked that we not take them and stated that there would be towels on the island for us to use. This wasn’t a problem until we got to the island and realized that there was, in fact, not a single towel available. And this was the case for about 3 hours until someone finally came around and replenished them. It made what would have been a really nice time on the island far less enjoyable. Particularly as cold as the ocean water is right now. It’s one reason we didn’t go back. Finally, as many have stated, there is a persistent problem with guests (or their butlers) placing towels or other items on beach and pool chairs and then literally being gone for hours while others that actually wanted to utilize them had to hunt and hope to find something, usually in a less preferable spot. All in all, we had a wonderful time and we could definitely see ourselves returning to this or other Sandals locations. Hopefully next time with a couple of the hiccups resolved. Read less

My wife and I spent 5 nights here with another couple. We did not have Butler Service, but we did just fine. The food was good and at times very good. Loved the lamb and lobster at Butch's. We went to this restaurant twice. Also loved the local Conch dishes from the food truck (Coco Queen) for lunch. Lunch was just ok at the Aralia House and Kanoo. Also enjoyed some Sushi at Soy. Very nice experience there. We had one dinner and breakfast at La Plume and both were good. We did most of our breakfast meals at Kanoo. It was a buffet with a wide variety and cook to order omelette bar. Food was good here. We went to the island one day, and while it was less crowded, we decided it was a "one and done". The water was quite chilly in the pool and the ocean was similar. Aralia House food was just ok. We are in our mid 60's so we enjoyed the Quiet Pool and got lots of reading done, and the water temperature was refreshing. There was more action for the younger folks at the other pool. The drinks were good, but much more mixers than alcohol. Maybe that was a good thing! We stayed on the East side and that worked out well for us. The room was very nice with only a few minor issues that the staff took care of. My wife particularly enjoyed our room as it had lots of storage for our clothes, his and her sink areas, iron and ironing board, and plenty spacious overall. The beach was pretty but nothing spectacular for swimming. There were roped off sections. Some sea weed, but hard to avoid that. The water was beautiful colors of blue. Some entertainment was available, but we did not do too much. We loved the Piano bar that we hit on several nights. It got pretty lively with both some good and bad singing from the guests :>) Lastly, a shout out to the staff. Everyone was very friendly and personable. It seemed to come naturally and was not forced. Overall a very nice vacation. Read less

We just finished a six-night stay at Sandals Royal Bahamian to celebrate my 40th and it was fantastic. I have extremely high expectations, travel frequently, and I’m a connoisseur of the finer things in life so any time I go somewhere new I hold my breath. I spent months reading reviews, and several had me questioning my choice. I’m so glad I stuck with my plans, because they made my milestone birthday one to remember. We were taken to the resort in a private luxury sedan where we met our first butler. He got us checked in, showed us around, and sat us for lunch because our room wasn’t quite ready yet due to our early arrival. By the time we were finished eating, the room was ready so he picked us up along with our other butler. They took us to the room (West Bay One Bedroom Oceanview Swim-up Butler Suite with Patio Tranquility Soaking Tub - OS1B) and the room was clean, spacious, & well appointed. It was stocked with our preferences and they had special snacks waiting for us upon arrival. They left us to get settled and we quickly changed to enjoy our plunge pool. Over the course of our trip we had two beach days, two pool days, and a day at the private island. Each day our butler team made sure we had the best spots, always had everything we needed, and got us seated for dinner at our preferred times. I need to specifically call out Donard & Andrae because they were absolutely phenomenal. They made the entire trip magical, and they totally showed out for us. From check in to check out, they made our stay flawless. No detail missed, every single day was perfection. We will request them by name when we go back! Things I observed on my own, based on other reviews I read prior to my trip… •Slow service at restaurants: Island time is a real thing. You’re on vacation, unclench and relax. Enjoy a leisurely meal. We did not have an issue with this! •Food quality: Everything we ate was good. Was it the best ever? No, but it was still good and came out hot. Our favorites were the ribs at the island restaurant, the surf & turf at Butch’s, and the whole dinner at Kimono’s was amazing. •Resort staff: Everyone was so friendly! We were always greeted with a smile. The bartenders were an absolute riot, they knew how to have fun! Giselle & T-Money at the West Bay pool were truly the best - Giselle will make you an amazing Old Fashioned and T-Money will provide immaculate vibes. •Boat shuttle to island: This is my only true complaint. We were there at 9:30am for the 10am boat but it didn’t end up leaving until 10:30 and we missed getting on by 2 people. But the boat returned quickly to pick up the next group so it wasn’t bad. Overall, we had a fantastic time. We will absolutely go back! Read less
