There are plenty of shops and stores to view along the way. The restaurants are great and accommodate gluten-free very well. The staff are friendly and really accommodate each guest well. The ocean, on the other hand, is not the clear blue water you are used to seeing in Cancun. The seaweed builds up all along the shore, causing the beach to smell. The seaweed remains while the report clears it at least twice a day. The water is not clear. While visiting this time, there was no access to the water. I also stayed at the Ava in January 2025, and the same issue was present. While the food and staff were great, the beach is not worth seeing at this resort. Read less

We were excited to go to Ava. It would normally be out of our price range. We are legendary members and had a free week so we used that to go to their newest resort. First of all, it is so amazingly close to the airport! What a treat! When we arrived, we were so impressed with the welcome we got: cool towels, a person taking care of us, Jorge, and drinks. Jorge greeted us immediately and then everyday after that, he would see us, and was so so friendly! He made our days! Our Bellman, Ernesto, was exceptional. He spent so much time with us explaining the whole property. He explained the room, too. He was amazing. He also showed up at check out and took care of us and then making sure we got our transportation and everything. What a guy! Ernesto and Jorge speak to the level of commitment we felt from the staff. This is a huge resort. I believe a 1000 rooms. The staff though make you feel like it's small and personal. We always listen to the spiel to take advantage of what we can get by doing so. We got mani's, pedi's, and Bali beds. Edgar was our guy. He was helpful. The first day we went to the Legends pool area to use a Bali bed, and it was difficult to find one. We were given Edgar as a waiter. He wasn't very attentive and we were not impressed. Our expectations are always high in this respect. We have a favorite person in the Riviera Maya, William, at the Hard Rock, and he's so good, it's hard for others to live up to him. The next day I went back to the Legend pool and got a text to show that we had another Bali bed. I showed the waiter Luiz, just the text and he went into action. He got me set up and immediately took care of anything and everything. He was absolutely amazing and he did everything with the biggest, brightest smile. We spent the rest of the week with him. On his last day, we took pictures with him. He had a surprise for us. He had sand art made, wishing us well. Also, shots and carrot cake. So so sweet. Also helping Luiz was Xavier-he was so much fun, too. And Santiago. They would be the whole reason we'd come back to this resort. The restaurants: our expectations were a little high. So much is made of them. We are sure but maybe our palettes aren't of the caliber needed. We went to the Iron Grille first. We were disappointed. We had ribeyes at the suggestion of the waiter. They didn't have a regular salad. Now on the last night we went back and ordered tenderloin and it was fabulous. Our waitress was fabulous too. She also gave us a special dessert wishing us safe travels. It was a special evening there. We also like Veranda, the Italian restaurant, the waiter was fun, and the Mexican was excellent. We'd skip the French. We love the French restaurant at Hard Rock Riviera Maya more. And the night we had reservations for Livo, it was closed. The breakfast buffet was good. Melina our waitress was sweet. You can ask for bacon and they will bring it to you. The buffet doesn't seem to have as much as other buffets in other resorts. It's okay though. We liked the Digit bar and Cantina. We play cards and there are lots of tables and chairs for this. Thank you !!!! We didn't attend any shows, so I can't comment on that. We did bowl, and that was fun. We used the spa, and had massages, and hydo-therapy. Nice. Our only complaint and only thing that would keep us from coming back is the lack of a nice beach. If they could work on that, it would make this resort be the best. My husband loves a beach. He did enjoy the Bay--it's a mile long--or very long pool. So it simulates the ocean. But hands down, the staff is spectacular! We were at the Hard Rock Puerto Vallarta in January and they could learn a lot from you!!! We would highly recommend this resort. Read less

Definitely make reservations for the restaurants. The real star of the show this week was Jose David at the pools. He went above and beyond everyday to create a wonderful experience for me and my friends. I sprained my ankle here on the second day and every day unasked, he would bring a towel wrapped with ice to put on my ankle. Very attentive and kind. Farit was also amazing at the adult only pool on my first day. These two employees, especially Jose David, made this trip so much more pleasurable. Their service was stellar especially in the conditions in which they work all day long. They endure so much in this heat in order for us to relax. Give them raises Ava!!! Read less
