The grounds are beautiful and well kept and the location right on the beach was beautiful. We had a beautiful sea view and never got tired of the view of the ocean. How anyone complained about the food is beyond me it was varied and presented lovely. The Jamaican people in the hotel are so lovely especially in the Beloved Restaurant on the beach, Dania, Ricardo, Shanae (little Whitney), Lertoyo, Camara and Samantha made the holiday for us such lovely professional people who deserve recognition on here. O’Neil who cleaned the beach was wonderful he got us fresh coconuts and was so smiley and happy everyday. The sea is so lovely and warm and we snorkelled daily. I will definitely return to the Catalonia and look forward to seeing it once it’s all renovated. Read less

First time at the resort. My daughter and I enjoyed it. It is an older place having been built in 1970 but currently being updated by the new owners in stages. I got to view a model of what the new rooms will be and they were spectacular. Now with that said for what it is in its current state yes a little dated but the resort was clean, our room was comfortable and beds comfy. Could see ocean even in the garden view. The food was great and I'm sure I gained 10 pounds. Spa service was wonderful. They had a snack bar with burgers, fries, hot dogs and jerk chicken/pork, a nice cream, crepes and sandwich place all available at the beach. There was a sports bar open each night for dancing. They have karaoke, singer, local highschool performances, games, beach parties and BBQs. The house band featured different singers and they were very talented. We mostly swam in the beach and snorkeling around the little Island. The pool was nice too. Overall I loved it here. If you are stuck up and expect the Ritz Carlton you won't like the chill vibe here but the more down to earth folks will appreciate it. But it is turning into a more luxurious resort slowly as the renovations are taking place. I have read some terrible reviews and being that I just got back two days ago I would have to say the people writing them must be crazy because this place isn't that bad. There are cats everywhere but I never smelled urine. The resort is clean and I've seen stray cats at every resort I've ever been to. This place is good and only going to get better. Read less

Don’t let the glossy beach photos fool you — Catalonia Montego Bay is a dump, plain and simple. This place is severely outdated, falling apart at the seams, and reeks of neglect (literally and figuratively). The moment you step on the property, you’re greeted with the pungent stench of stray cat urine, thanks to the dozens of feral cats roaming around freely, marking their territory everywhere — walkways, lobbies, even near the food areas. Disgusting. My stay was a disaster from the start. A major water pipe broke, and we had no running water for nearly three days — no flushing toilets, no showers, nothing. Management offered vague excuses and no real compensation. If you’re thinking “that must be a rare case,” think again. The infrastructure is crumbling and the staff is clearly used to brushing these issues under the rug. The place looks nothing like the website — it’s old, tired, and worn down. Paint is peeling, the rooms smell musty, and the common areas feel dirty and unkempt. To top it off, the so-called “beach” is a joke. It’s a sad patch of rocky shore with barely any sand — definitely not the tropical escape the photos suggest. And the clientele? Let’s just say it felt like a Hell’s Angels convention — not a place you’d feel safe bringing a family or even just relaxing. This is easily one of the worst resort experiences I’ve ever had. If you’re considering booking here: don’t. Save your money, your time, and your sanity. There are far better places in Jamaica. Catalonia Montego Bay should be condemned, not advertised. And yes, we did end up going to another resort because we couldn’t stand it!!! Read less

Let me start with the good. Samantha was our waitress at BLoved on June 7th and for breakfast at the buffet on June 9th. She is wonderful, kind, attentive, and despite the humidity, heat found a way to provide an amazing customer experience. The lady who cleaned my room was awesome and on top of things. These 2 were gems and if the rest of my experience was as great as they were, then I'd only have compliments to share. The resort.... we'll I'd give that a 2 star, but I'd rather highlight these 2 amazing employees. Read less
