The hotel

A veritable castle in the heart of the city, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is an impeccable symbol of indulgence and pedigree. Offering the luxury and services of a world-class hotel, all guest rooms are beautifully furnished with every attention to detail observed. Facilities include a state-of-the-art health club, accessible 24-hours a day, with indoor heated swimming pool and saunas. Pilates and Yoga classes are available at the Sitka Studios or treat yourself to some well-deserved pampering at the Absolute Spa. There’s also some prime shopping in the lobby with designers stores selling plenty to tempt you! Although you’re close to plenty of restaurants and bars in the downtown area, the Fairmont’s very own Notch8 Restaurant & Bar is the ideal place to relax and watch the world pass by. Named after a train’s top speed, achieved only by the most skilled conductors, the restaurant pays homage to the hotel’s storied history and legacy as a luxury hotel along the Canadian Pacific railway. A traditional afternoon tea is also served here daily — for a special occasion, add a glass of champagne or, if the kids want to tag along, childish delights include Bubblegum Tea, fresh strawberries and cream and a giant chocolate chip cookie!

We worked with the Fairmont Gold team to allow us to upgrade our pre cruise hotel stay to the Fairmont Gold level. And what a treat! From the moment we checked in on the 9th floor we were provided with superlative service and accommodations. No challenge too great seems to describe the team of supervisors, all of whom created this experience. Our room was large, well furnished, and located. Outside two of our windows you could see a statue of Pan playing his flute. Inside the room were a sofa, desk, coffee table, armoire and two large TV’s, one for each room. When the thermostat kept the room too cold, a technician took care of the problem immediately. Another brought a toilet riser. But the food services were the standouts in both quality and variety. In addition to a magnificent breakfast spread, guests were treated to tea, evening canapés, and desserts. When we inquired where to purchase hand sanitizer and face mask, one of the supervisors provides us with replacements. I highly recommend the Fairmont Gold. Read less

This place is fine. Great location that can’t be beat. Historic, old vibes. Great service, great restaurant (esp breakfast). ALL status acknowledged. Rooms have small bathrooms and are fairly dark with worn carpet. Pool area could use a renovation (hot tub has been out of action for >3 mths). Pacific rim is much nicer. Waterfront is a good… Read more

Waterfront is a good compromise between the two when it’s not cruise ship season (too crowded). Agree with another recent review that it needs a fire safety review. A non obvious fire alarm noise went off last night, no big deal, it happens. We got announcements on our level as the staff gave updates. But trying to exit the building is tough and potentially dangerous, especially from the second floor. Emergency exit signs point to stairwells that only go up and don’t exit you from the building. Would be v dangerous in a real fire situation. Check a floor map so you know how to exit! Read less

This hotel is undoubtedly the WORST of all the Fairmonts I have stayed. Not just the check-in is inefficient, super dirty carpet floor, staff (including Manager levels) had no proper training. There's a fire alarm situation close to midnight local time earlier, there's NO Annoucement over PA or hotel staff sent to inform, the alarm went on for few long minutes, lots of guests were in total confusion, is it a false alarm ? is it real ? ?? Some trekked down many floors to go down to lobby and some chose to stay back. The siren alarm went off after few minutes and about 13 minutes later, the alarm went on again, this time more Guests trekked down the stairs to get to the lobby. The walk to the lobby itself is in serious question as it's not a nornal staircase walk down, it had to pass a long journey through aircon ventilators and some part of the walk had obstacles on the floor like broken equiment lying on the floor (see photos). What is really worse was when guests got down to the Lobby floor, none of the staff seem care about what's going on with the sleeping guests and just casualty said it's ind of a false alarm, when I questioned the night shift manager "Sir, how come no PA announcement is made to inform every Guests what really happened ??" He answer was "it's what it's what do you expect ??" This hotel I am not sure how they renew their fire safety licence , when there's ZERO announcement made for both times of siren and there were few fire engines trucks on the street. I sincerely believe an audit of safety protocols on this hotel by a body like Vancouver Fire Department is seriousy needed. It's a grave mistake to have chosen this Fairmont over Pacific Rim Fairmont or Waterfront Fairmont. Read less

Absolutely wonderful experience. From the very beginning, a front desk employee named Jane was extremely helpful and pleasant to deal with. She helped us transfer to the Fairmont from a ridiculous situation we were in at another establishment. Loved her helpfulness and professionalism. The hotel itself is wonderful, a great throw back to the great Hotel days. I've stayed in some really good ones, but this is the best in years. If and when I return to Vancouver, I will stay again and recommend anyone I know that's coming here to do the same. Grateful to Jane and the management of this. Nice job! Read less
