I booked my room the week before my recent stay on June 3-4, 2025, which was for business purposes. The rate was high but all hotels were due to a number of conferences ongoing in the city and I was there for business so had few other options. My reservation contract was for $707 including the MAT and HST. At the time of check in I was asked to provide my credit card as a hold for the room rate plus incidentals, which is not uncommon. My room was fine, definitely not worth $700/night. The bathroom had defunct shower curtain holders that hadn’t been removed since the curtain rod was obviously moved, and the toilet would not flush unless I held the handle down for at least 60-90 seconds. The sliding door to the balcony would not lock and remained able to be opened, which as a solo female traveller made me feel unsafe. The hotel was fully booked, as were many others in the city, so I felt little choice to move and was already exhausted from my travel to Toronto. Following my check out I received my emailed invoice with an additional 2026 Sports tourism tax as well as the hst on that. This was different from my reservation details/total. I phoned the hotel and when speaking with the front desk staff was informed this is a new tax implemented by the city that only came into effect two days ago. I stated this was not included in my reservation contract made the week prior and at no time during check in or check out was I informed of this new tax. I informed the staff that this was essentially theft, and they were still unwilling to address this. While I understand that municipality can decide to implement a new tax, this needs to be included in the original reservation agreement, is the hotel responsibility to update their computer reservation to reflect this upcoming tax, and the hotel cannot just charge me more than the contracted amount and then shrug their shoulders saying it’s not their fault. I am left to dispute this charge with my credit card company and will notify appropriate authorities of this dishonest practice. Read less

Good Location and Reasonably Priced

The hotel has been undergoing an update for a number of years now and I'm afraid that when it is all finished, the price will also be reflected. The location is quite good, about equidistant from College and Dundas Subway stations. The neighbourhood around is a little grimy, but is relatively safe. The rooms are small but are clean and fairly modern. The bathroom had an older tap and sink, and the tub spout felt like it was going to fall off when the shower was activated. . but overall a good experience and I would stay here again. . . noise from the continual construction around the hotel with towers being built is very noticeable early in the morning, but nothing the air conditioning unit couldn't block out with the fan set on high for some white noise. . We stayed for a couple of nights at the start and end of our holiday for a wedding at City Hall and wished to leave a review for one member of staff. Donna at your concierge desk was outstanding and very helpful with a couple of queries. We feel that she went above and beyond her duties to be helpful and kind. Many thanks!
