The hotel is so-called because the rooms are arranged in cabana-style blocks. Waterworld is Sun City's lake area where you can partake in various water sports, including water-skiing and for the less adventurous, a gentle cruise is always pleasant. Adults can soak up the sun poolside and enjoy chic cocktails at the Cabanas Pool Deck.

380 newly refurbished rooms on 2 floors in 7 buildings with no lifts. All with air-conditioning, TV, tea/coffee maker, fridge, safe and hairdryer. Standard Rooms have a shower only (no bath), sleeping maximum 2 adults. Standard Lake Facing Rooms, sleeping maximum 2 adults.
Family Rooms have a double bed and double sleeper sofa, sleeping 2 adults and 2 children.
Ground Lake Floor Family Rooms and Upstairs Lake Family Rooms are available, sleeping 2 adults and 2 children.
Palm Terrace restaurant (buffet breakfast), Treasure Island snack bar (lunch), Cabanas Pool Bar & Restaurant (light meals).

The room is clean, but the facilities in the room are very average. The a/c didn’t work properly. The toilet didn’t flush, had to contact reception to get some to help. Shuttle buses, they say are 24 hours, but could not get one at 6am to get to the bus stop for the game viewing. Saying all of this, the Staff are fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed my recent stay at the Cabanas. We stayed four nights, but only paid for three due to a midweek-break-special, applicable to South African citizens. It was great value for money. Whenever I visit Sun City, I always spend the majority of time at The Valley of the Waves, which is better than swimming in the real ocean, in my humble opinion. In which hotel I stay, is not such a big deal, because I just sleep in my room and eat breakfast at the hotel. The Cabanas, however, always exceed my expectations. All the staff at the Cabanas were very friendly and helpful, but one specific person deserves a special compliment. We have spent every day at Sun City's Valley of the Waves, except Thursday, 1 May 2025, because it was a public holiday. We knew that The Valley of The Waves would be extremely busy. Thus, we spent the entire day at the pool of the Cabanas. I thought it would be a boring day, but the DJ, whose name I unfortunately do not know, provided great entertainment with her selection of music. It was a lady and she catered for young and old. Management's trouble to keep all guests happy and entertained, is greatly appreciated. Read less

Overall, it's a good night's stay. Check-in was quick, and the directions to the rooms could be clearer, but we did eventually find the room. The rooms are well set out, breakast was a decent spread and caters for all dietary requirements, check out can be improved as there were only 2 reception staff at the desk and the que was long.

My wife, daughter, and I recently stayed at the Cabanas Hotel in Sun City for two nights, and overall, it was a pleasant experience, though with one significant drawback. The Positives: Check-in and Parking: We arrived on Friday, 7th February, and found parking readily available in the hotel lot. The check-in process was smooth and efficient, setting a positive tone for our stay. Room: We were allocated room 2320, which was pleasant, neat, and clean. The room provided a comfortable space for our family. Pool: The pool area was sparkling clean and well-maintained, making it a great spot to relax. Breakfast: As always, the breakfast was excellent. Having stayed here many times before, we can confidently say the quality remains consistently high. Sun City Experience: Sun City itself remains a fantastic getaway. The Valley of the Waves was in great condition, the family entertainment area was enjoyable, and the variety of food options added to the overall experience. The Major Issue: Unfortunately, we encountered a significant problem with the bathroom. Water from the shower cubicle flowed out onto the bathroom floor, seeped under the bathroom door into the room entrance, and nearly reached the hotel corridor. We had to use multiple towels to prevent the water from spreading further. Fortunately, we had additional towels from the pool which we used. While housekeeping assisted us on 1 night, this is not a sustainable solution. This is not a housekeeping issue. It’s clear this issue has been ongoing, as the bottom of both the bathroom and room doors appear to be rotting, suggesting long-term neglect. One wonders if the Maintenance staff have simply ignored this - it cannot be that they are not aware if this as there's other reviews on TripAdvisor related to the same issue. This is disappointing, especially given the otherwise high standards of the hotel. Maintenance needs to address this urgently to prevent further damage and inconvenience to guests. Conclusion: Despite the bathroom issue, we had a great stay and will likely return soon. Sun City remains a wonderful escape, and the Cabanas Hotel continues to offer a mostly enjoyable experience. However, we hope the Cabanas Management takes immediate action to resolve the water leakage problem to ensure future guests have a flawless stay. Read less
