The Plaza New York

Midtown, New York

Virgin rating

The hotel

Feel like you’ve been here before? You have, in the movies anyway! From Home Alone 2 and Bride Wars, to Sleepless in Seattle, the location has proved a blockbuster backdrop for some firm film favourites. The Plaza certainly lives up to its name, and being a National Historic Landmark it’s full of old-world elegance and grandeur. Just south of Central Park, there’s plenty of places to eat and drink right on your doorstep, but some of the hotel’s own restaurants are not to be missed. And not forgetting the aptly named Champange Bar, where you can sip on some bubbles whilst looking out on Fifth Avenue and The Pulitzer Fountain.

This review is for a three nights stay at the hotel. I would highly encourage you to stay here if you are debating it. It is definitely worth the price tag. The concierge is so helpful and knowledgeable. We texted them before we even arrived to get some dinner reservations and while we were there, we got some more recommendations by just walking up and asking. The rooms are so beautiful and spacious and have everything you need. I love the robes and slippers! The shower is so luxurious and the bed was really comfy. The TV is not a smart TV, but it has a ton of channels. The spa is so nice as well and there is a fitness center and steam room within the spa that are available to hotel guests whenever they are open. The fitness center is pretty spacious and has a peloton. They have complementary boxed ' just water' for hotel guests. All the staff is SO kind and helpful. The staff definitely puts the plaza above other hotels. We got room service and they wheel it right next to your bed. It's presented very beautifully and was tasty - a bit pricey though. My only complaints were that the room did not have a fridge. It had a microwave, but not a fridge, which didn't make sense to us. The elevators were also very small and with a huge hotel that led to waiting for the elevator most times we needed one. Read less

The Plaza Hotel really deserves its five-star reputation! My mother and myself had the pleasure to spend 3 nights (4 days) just before Christmas in this iconic and historic hotel and we will never forget the magic and the excellent service that we received during our stay, as well at the reception at check in and check out and at the Palm Court for breakfasts and Afternoon Tea!! Special thanks to Rick (Ricardo) and his lovely colleague (whose name we have not known), thanks to them we have been treated like Princesses at the Palm Court for our evening meal on our arrival day! We hope to see you again during our next stay at the Plaza because we will definitely come back! We really appreciated the beauty of the hotel (even the elevators are stunning!), all its Christmas decorations, the comfort of our rooms (n°1438 & 1538, very quiet and with little Central Park view!) the excellent breakfasts and the unforgettable Afternoon Tea (with Shalim) at the Palm Court but on top of it, we will remember the kindly contact with the attentive staff, they do a remarkable job, especially during this very busy month before Christmas and New Year! Once again many thanks to all for the memorable stay we had!! Read less

Checked in to front desk and were sincerely greeted by Erika Perez. Her genuine enthusiasm was electrifying. She was so happy for us ( mom) daughter & granddaughter. She pulled up our reservation with suggestions regarding accommodations. All we can say was she took over to make our stay exceptional. An angel to our family. Experience was enjoyable but feel it has become a very expensive tourist trap. Loved the elegant ambiance some time ago, before there was a bar in the center. Redeeming feature was Kabir—very attentive & interesting to talk with, has worked at Plaza for 34 years—a lovely gentleman!

Perfect service. We enjoyed an afternoon tea all items were fresh and well made. Our waiter gave exceptional service which made our birthday celebrations extra special. Would definitely return for our next special celebration when we are in New York.
