This was by far the most dirty hotel I've ever stayed at and I do travel frequently. I understand the room could be old, but the amount of dust everywhere, hair on towels, etc., it was beyond. Also, the bathroom window had some issues, so the bathroom was cold all the time and after shower it was steamed for hours as there was no good ventilation. The furnitures were broken too - example desk chair. And this was a second room we were offered, after the first one had not heating and safe working. The staff was rude too (except the gentleman who checked us in) - example the staff in the lobby checking the cards before elevator - they yell at you when you forget to show the card. The check out lady after I asked for the invoice told me it's booking only and she can't help me. Now when I contacted booking they told me it must be the hotel - I contacted them multiple times and there is no reply. Basically they refused to give me invoice I need for expenses. Read less

We recently stayed at the New Yorker hotel in New York, and having stayed there twice in the past were very much looking forward to it. I am a full time wheelchair user and had booked a wheelchair accessible room. We were allocated room number 3332. This room (in my opinion) should not be advertised as a wheelchair accessible room. This is factored mainly on the bathroom. The height of the sink in the bathroom is approximately 36 inches high, but the problem is the actual sink basin is embedded in a marble work surface with the basin itself being approximately 6 inches further back. This means that if you are sat in a wheelchair, trying to use the sink to either wash your face or brush your teeth it is very difficult to do. Water ends up going everywhere apart from in the sink. Also, the walk in shower is very poorly designed. There is a shower seat to sit on but it doesn't have a proper back rest so there is very little support. But the main issue with the shower is that the seat is at one end while the shower head and all the controls are on the opposite side, meaning that if you are sat on the seat you cannot access the controls. You would have to have someone else there in the shower to help you. As I have already said, this was the third time we had stayed at the New Yorker, but sadly I won't be staying there again for fear of getting allocated the same room, nor would I feel comfortable about recommending the hotel to other wheelchair users. I must add that the hotel (apart from room 3332) is great and the staff very friendly and very helpful. Read less

Overall room very clean and nice, and hotel is in a good location. Neida was very helpful when we got there, suggesting good resteraunts and really helping with our itinerary. Definently recommend getting in touch with her if you go. Will definently be visiting again on our next trip to NYC!

I was really looking forward to my stay at the New Yorker, but unfortunately, the way in which the hotel shamelessly extorts money from guests during/after their stay made my trip end on a very sour note. Firstly, I booked the hotel via a third party agent. There was no warning about the fact I would be asked to fork out several hundred dollars on arrival for a security deposit. I also knew there might be some kind of admin fees (e.g. city tax) involved when I checked out, but I nearly had an anxiety attack when I was given my "check-out bill". It included a long list numerous entirely unnecessary/arbitrary and unfair charges, including a "facility fee" which apparently covers wi-fi usage, and other hotel facilities you haven't even used, including the photocopier and gym. I.e. just normal things you get included "free" with your stay at any other hotel. The staff were a mixed bag. The guys who checked me in and out were very pleasant and professional. The elevator attendants were also very polite too. But one female receptionist was absolutely vile when I asked a simple query. I told her it's not nice being spoken to that way as a customer, but she completely ignored this and continued talking to me in a brusque and obnoxious manner. The woman in question has long brunette hair and glasses, and speaks in a (possibly) Hispanic accent. As other reviews have pointed out, there's some weird stall in the lobby manned by Wyndham staff trying to sell your "a tour of one of their hotels" (Wyndham Club) in exchange for cut-price tickets to various attractions. As I later learned (from doing my research), this is not really what they're selling. The reality is, when you embark on this "tour", you actually have to sit through a sales pitch for timeshares for several hours. I questioned this with the male seller, having noticed the word "timeshare" on his tablet when he tried making me sign up. He fobbed me off and insisted that the timeshare presentation is just a mere small part of the tour, and I just needed to ignore any attempts of being sold timeshares. Something I also found very off-putting was how pushy and overfamiliar this Wyndham Club rep was. When I initially fell for his sales spiel, he advised me to take his WhatsApp in case I had any queries about the tour. This made me feel very uncomfortable, but I took his number down out of politeness, so I could get away from him as quickly as possible. However, he then put me on the spot and asked me to message him there and then so he could get my number. At one point, he also pointedly asked about my marital status when that checkbox question came up. Creepy and invasive. Needless to say, I did not pursue this weird timeshares "tour". In retrospect, I should have told the guy to get lost. The room itself was average (despite paying for an upgrade) and there were major issues with soundproofing. The walls are very thin and you can hear every little noise from your neighbour. On the first night, I kept getting awoken by some woman next door repeatedly bursting into song at random. This went on all night and into the early hours of the next day. I was also awoken by her fellow male guest screaming loudly at 4.30am. The pair of them were obviously high on something, and the whole situation was very unnerving. Thankfully, they both checked out the next day. Compared to other reviews, my room wasn't the worst hygiene-wise and size-wise, but I did end up paying extra for it. The general plumbing at the hotel is also insanely loud. You can hear every toilet flush and tap being turned on by your neighbour. My other neighbour had a bath and it sounded like someone was trying to drill through the wall. It was awful. Location-wise it's good and near Madison Square Gardens and Times Sq etc, but it's really not worth paying over the odds for. With all the hidden charges involved, I could have stayed somewhere much better for the same amount, if not less. Read less

Absolutely loved this place, very central for Times Square, Macy's and Empire State building. The hotel was like 40's decor, which i absolutely loved. A diner on the ground floor, which we used often. All hotel staff were friendly and polite. Would definitely recommend . Was disappointed that the large red New Yorker sign had been removed,
