Fantastic hotel with a big comfy bed great friendly staff , the hotel is spotless throughout , also has its own bar , it has 5x very fast lifts so never waited around for long , great location. The only thing that did let it down just a teeny weeny bit was bathroom not very private inside the room , instead of walls it has like a frosted glass

Perfect Midtown location for our 5 night stay. Rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet so we had good sleep. Friendly staff and brilliant breakfast included!

Okay I want to start with the positives. 1. The room was spotless on arrival and kept so by the cleaning staff throughout our stay. Lovely mattresses and pillows. 2. The coffee shop is a very welcomed addition and has very friendly staff working in it. 3. The bell hops and door men were very welcoming and friendly throughout our stay as were those working in the bar. 4. Noise in the room was kept low despite the noisy traffic outside. 5. We were facilitated with no issue for an extended checkout due to our flight being delayed, of course we paid for it but it did not see to be any problem. The staff also held onto our cases until our late pick up so we could continue to explore NY on those last few hours. Now for the negatives 1. Family room in name only, absolutely TINY. We are a family of 5 with 3 kids 13, 11, 10 and there was little to no storage and only the room for the two doubles and the pullout sofa. We were unable to unpack any cases and the tiny space was made worse by the cases lying around. How difficult would it be to add in some high level shelves, shelves in the wardrobe instead of hanging space etc. There was also only 2 small bottles of courtesy water when 5 guests were paying for the room. Any extra have to be paid for. The lack of coffee/tea making facilities also let's it down. Also bland decor which makes it looks cheap and plasticy 2. Breakfast wasn't great quality, with the exception of the fruit and sweet junk food items. There was plenty of choice but it just didn't taste all that good. It was also reminiscent of a school canteen, noisy, chaotic & sterile with aloof staff operating the flow. A million miles from any 4 star hotel experience I've ever had and I've stayed in many throughout the world. We stopped eating there after a couple days, instead favouring some good quality diners nearby. 3. Two sheets with a woolen blanket between them on the beds is not nearly enough to provide any level of warmth or comfort particularly when it was -11 in NY. We asked for an extra pillow and blanket for each bed on arrival and they arrived at the room with 1 pillow and 1 additional blanket and made it seem like a big inconvenience. The pullout bed in the room literally only had 1 flat pillow and 1 blanket and is situated right beside a drafty window. 4. The frosted glass shower. I cannot in any world see how the designers considered this a good idea. It affords absolutely no privacy. As for the bathroom sliding door which has no lock and has a 30mm gap which shows the person sitting on the toilet as you pass by. Beyond ridiculous. 5. Cold, uninviting, overly busy lobby. Felt like a train station with the amount of people and lack of space to facilitate. For the first 2 days of the severe cold they had the lobby doors opened and the cold was felt throughout the hotel, they must have received complaints about it because they had men on the doors thereafter manually opening and closing them. Whilst we had a lovely stay in NY I wouldn't come back to RIU plaza again. I understand lots of people talk about the great location but I would be the opposite in that I think TS is the worse that NY has to offer and would advise anyone coming to stay well away from it. Reception staff were really helpful and welcoming. My only thing is that the beds don’t have duvets on, just blankets and I really missed a duvet especially when it was freezing and snowing outside but it didn’t spoil my trip and I’ll definitely return again in the future.
