Fantastic 15th floor view of Hudson River (spacious double bed booked). Have travelled to NYC many times so we knew to expect less square footage based on our budget. The room view and decor had wow-factor. Lovely staff who say hello every time. We appreciated the non-computer generated response when we requested a higher floor (high floor subject to availability). Check in and out were a breeze and we appreciated storage of our bags upon arrival at noon so we could head out and explore the city. The floor to ceiling windows is what we were seeking and we were not disappointed. Great location (Hells Kitchen, near all the theatres). Just a block away from the crowds and bustle of Times Sq. We loved that we could retreat to our quieter space after a long day of exploring. We felt safe and relaxed when in our room. We appreciated the water filling stations in the hallway. The only thing we missed was lobby space. The entrance is quite narrow and only had a two seater couch. There is a restaurant but you’d have to purchase something to sit there. The roof top patio requires guests to be 21 years or older so we couldn’t go up there with our teen children. Regardless, I would recommend this hotel (already have) with the above precautions. Would rate 4٫5/5 if I could. Read less

We stayed at the Civilian Hotel from January 7-13 and we had a fantastic stay. Nick provided a warm welcome when we arrived and was very helpful to explain all charges and answer all questions when we checked in. Throughout the week, we were greeted by name and enjoyed friendly conversation with Danny, Albert, Jesus, Lisa, Adonis, and Kassie. Breakfast with Ramon was wonderful -- stocked, clean, and organized -- and Ramon was friendly and happy to engage in conversation with guests as they arrived to breakfast. Sam was a fantastic server and he also provided a great recommendation for a burger spot (5 Napkin Burger) where we had one of the best burgers we have ever eaten! The food at the Rosevale restaurant at the hotel is fantastic and has some of the best food we have ever eaten (the burger and the gnocchi were a couple of our favorites!). The uniqueness of the hotel and its decor was lovely, as there were always new things to see or look at in every area of the hotel. We were also able to spend some time on the second floor enjoying the live jazz, which was such a fun atmosphere that I've not experienced at any other hotel. David S. (Civilian Guest Experience Manager) assisted us in planning our trip, and he was a wonderful resource throughout the week -- not just for the hotel, but for the entire city! Overall, I cannot recommend staying at the Civilian Hotel enough! Read less

We travel down by Amtrak train from Rochester, NY and arrive at Penn Station which is an easy 20 min walk away or a short cab/Uber to The Civilian. Hotel is brand new, has great staff and a fab hot breakfast buffet (eggs, bacon, sausage etc) in a spacious dining room for a great price. Rooms are spotless and compact, idea for couples like us who want to spend most of our time out and about in a central location to see some Broadway shows and dinners at night and museums (The Met) during the day.
