The hotel

Greeting guests since 1914, Chatham Bars Inn is a world-famous turn-of-the-century Cape Cod landmark. With public rooms returned to their original grandeur, it’s a fabulous place to enjoy a very comfortable stay, just minutes from the picture-perfect streets of Chatham itself. Overlooking a private stretch of golden beach, we highly recommend upgrading to take advantage of stunning ocean views – watching the waves come gently rolling in across the sand is nothing short of bliss! Also highly recommended is a trip to the spa – very Zen-like in atmosphere, it’s an oasis of peace and calm, complete with an outdoor relaxation pool and Vichy Shower Room. Choose from treatments such as Summer at the Shore and Citrus Sunset, guaranteed to chase your cares away. Whilst adults are at play, children will be having fun too at their very own kids' clubs. Beach Buddies is for younger children and The Clam Diggers is for those slightly older. Both offer an exciting array of activities including swimming lessons, tennis, sailing and themed parties. There’s plenty to do in the immediate area but not to be missed is a trip to Outer Beach, conveniently reached by complimentary shuttle and hailed as one of the most beautiful barrier beaches in the world! There are also lobstering cruises to join or hire a bike and cycle (rentals available nearby) the Cape Cod Rail Trail – 35 miles long, it winds its way through some very charming towns and villages.

The staff as always is phenomenal! However, with value of stay we had a leaking gas fireplace valve which maintenance needed to shut off, the toilet would not stop running over night which I was able to fix and small lack of maintenance such as bathroom hooks being loose and falling off make the value of stay take a hit on overall experience.

Visually stunning place to stay on the Cape. Very pricey. But save up and spend it there for the right, special occasion.

Lovely suite overlooking the fish pier, Tern Island, Chatham Harbor, North Beach and looking East to the Atlantic. Room was immaculate and the radio was playing Christmas carols as we arrived.

We wanted a bit of a Christmas getaway and heard great things about the Chatham Bars Inn. Had a great time in town during the day and checked in around 4. Happened to be a rainy/windy night but we were staying in the Main Inn so the weather wasn't much of an issue. The Inn is a bit older so anyone expecting an updated hotel will be disappointed. We had a nice corner room overlooking the ocean. Mattresses are pretty old/soft. The bathroom fan didn't work very well and we had an issue where the toilet stopped filling with water. We had to bucket brigade to flush and I managed to get the valve working. We also had used complimentary lotion samples in the room. Had dinner at the Sacred Cod Tavern (just OK and very expensive) and breakfast at Stars (very good but pricey). Despite all of this our main problem with our stay was when we checked out and told them the room issues we had - all we got was a "I'll tell the engineer". No "Sorry For The Inconvenience". No "We'll Take Something Off Your Bill". No "How Was Your Stay". We did get a couple of melted chocolates though. Hate to be so negative but I guess we expected better at this price point ($570/Night in the dead of winter). I'm sure in the summer it's nicer but at double those room rates? C'est La Vie Read less
