The hotel

An established resort hotel, the Royal Kona is surrounding by 12 acres of tropical landscape, just steps from the sea. Its laid-back ambience ensures a relaxing stay with amenities such as an oceanfront swimming pool and a private swimming lagoon to tempt you. There are also tennis courts for those who’ve remembered to pack their whites and a fitness centre for keeping trim. A hot favourite we think will be the Mai Tai Bar, not only serving 10 types of Mai Tai’s but set in a spectacular location, against the backdrop of Kailua Bay. The Breezaway Lounge is also idyllic, with sofas and armchairs strategically placed to offer full ocean views. Grab yourself a seat, a Mai Tai (of course!) and admire dazzling sunsets night after night. At Don the Beachcomber, the dining is as sumptuous as the view, fusing Asian inspiration and European technique to create the most delightful of dishes. Not to be missed is the Lu’au — a feast of tropical delicacies, song and dance celebrating the legends and lore of Polynesia, the dramatic Fire Dance finale is breathtaking!

There were plenty of pillows, which I Loved ! The AC was perfect ! Plus it's was a very nice and quiet stay ! We didn't get the view of the ocean from my room but it was still a nice view. If your here on vacation or you just need a night to get away , I highly recommend Royal Kona Resort !

My wife and I were there only for one night, and left very early in the morning. The room was spacious and clean. Unfortunately, the air conditioner made a lot of noise. The premises was busy. We did not use the restaurant. Parking was easy. We would definitely consider staying there again.

This place is old, everything is old, I am surprised it has high ratings as location is really the only redeeming feature. We were in the Bay tower and our room badly needs a remodel. Oceanfront so great view but single pane window and door wouldn't even close correctly. Pool is small and lounge chairs are old. No beach here. Nice sunsets. Dons… Read more

Oceanfront so great view but single pane window and door wouldn't even close correctly. Pool is small and lounge chairs are old. No beach here. Nice sunsets. Dons is same, good views but everything is old and dated. Wait staff friendly enough but bartenders are all unfriendly and make weak drinks. Food just ok. Location is really great because you can walk to many restaurants, bars and shops. Too bad they don't invest in the property and make it nice. Read less

The rooms were very clean and spacious. The bar and restaurant was excellent. The staff was very courteous and hospitable. Even with the high surf crashing on the shoreline, it was still comfortable. Would highly recommend Royal Kona Resort. Mahalo.

Great hotel! Pool is lovely, Bar/cafe food was excellent with amazing views of waves crashing on the shore! Have stayed here several times - always a pleasure. Rooms very comfortable. Very short walk to numerous cafes and music venues - 1 to 3 blocks, all on the waterfront row!
