Riu Plaza Fishermans Wharf

Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco

Virgin rating

The hotel

Just a pleasant stroll from the shops and entertainment at Pier 39, and the ferry to Alcatraz, the Riu Plaza Fisherman’s Wharf makes a stellar base to explore from. The hotel’s relaxed and friendly vibe is ideal after a day’s dim sum dining, cable car riding and selfie snapping. Your room is suitably airy and comfortable, you can kick back on the sun terrace by the outdoor heated pool, and, perhaps our favourite part, you can hangout by a crackling fire pit in the outdoor living area.

Breakfast was a lot better than other hotels I stayed at. They had eggs, bacon, variety of bread/pastries, potatoes, cut fruits (vs bananas and oranges to peel), coffee, juice, etc. Plenty of servers were there to ensure guests were seated timely. You could not bring food back to your room, but that was okay with me. I ate enough. Riu Plaza was the perfect location. We could walk to the pier, restaurants, the ferris wheel, and the boat for Alcatraz. Oh, and the hop on/hop off bus office was just around the corner as well. Front desk and breakfast area staff were courteous. The bartender was nice, too. We asked for some spots to eat dinner at, and she took out her phone to help us look. We didn't realize the nearby restaurants closed at 9pm. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to my friends and family! Read less

Absolutely loved the hotel. Very clean, staff was very helpful and kind. Perfect location, so close to so many amazing sites. Only con, you have to pay an additional parking fee. Thought parking was included in the price, but unfortunately it was not. Other than that, I give our stay and hotel a 10/10!

We wanted a hotel that was in the best possible location for Fisherman's Wharf, and this definitely fitted the bill. The hotel is modern, feels quite classy in many ways with very wide corridors, lots of cabin crew from various airlines coming in and out giving it a very cosmopolitan and international feel and the rooms were just great. We found the rooms to be well designed, not too cramped up, with a nice little seating area that made the rooms feel a lot more useful as a base. Breakfast was fine, for any British travellers, it wasn't a lot different to a Premier Inn or Holiday Inn breakfast, with plenty of options and it was well cooked. We had just one issue, shortly after arrival, when someone knocked on our door then ran. It happened again 10 minutes later and I was close enough to the door to hear it was the people next door. I knocked on their door and they refused to answer. I then went to the main desk and reported it to the manager. He then phoned them, knocked on their door and then spoke to me offering to move us if we wanted and apologised. He said that the guests next door were due to leave. It didn't happen again and the manager couldn't have been any more helpful. In terms of location, its literally 3 minutes walk from the waterfront and it was in the perfect spot. Overall, if we were every to return to San Francisco, this would be the place we'd stay at. Read less
