From the moment we arrived and until we left we found the service to be extremely professional, very friendly and helpful. No matter who you dealt with, you received personal service which was given so willingly and ably. The buffet restaurant and the speciality restaurants served excellent food and gave brilliant service. Speciality restaurants each had their own ambience and atmosphere. many of the same staff served in the different restaurants and were so personable and interested in you. The new year eve gala dinner was an amazing event, full compliments to all the staff involved in the planning and execution of the fantastic event. Housekeeping was perfect and the whole ambience of the hotel was simply very gracious and relaxing. There were a number of staff who deserve very special mention. Read less

It was so delicious! Those spices in that coffee immediately immersed us into the Arabic vibes. In addition to this, the dates that he was also offering were outstanding. Read less

My wife is handicapped and I specifically requested a room near a lift. This had been requested in writing. After a lot of messing around by an indifferent member of staff we were offered a room designed for a handicapped person. The room was fine except it couldn’t have been further away from the lift. Whoever designed this hotel with that feature is incompetent. As it was the second room we had seen and we had travelled overnight and were exhausted we accepted it but it involves a long walk every time we leave our room. The hotel building is magnificent and beautifully furnished and the staff in the restaurant, the pool and housekeeping are magnificent but it is some ways well below what I expect from a five star hotel. The worst feature is the food which is poor. I accept that it has a strong Turkish influence but I have worked in Turkey over several years and by Turkish standards it is below 5 star standard. We even eat last night an otherwise pleasant meal that I suspect contained MSG. Read less

This is the 2nd time we’ve stayed at the Rixos Saadiyat Island. We’ve also stayed at a couple of Ikos hotels so thought a review plus a comparison of a similar type hotel would be helpful. Both all inclusive. Key thing to note is that Rixos only allows a certain number of a la carte restaurant bookings and you have a cap (4 bookings). You also have a set menu at all restaurants where you can only choose 1 thing per course. Ikos is a free for all subject to restaurant availability and you can order whatever you like. The other key difference was no room service was included in Rixos. If you’re like us who have children who go to bed early it didn’t leave us with many opportunities once they’d been put to bed. We were hoping to enjoy a nice glass of wine sitting on the balcony whilst our son was in bed but all alcohol is chargeable (circa £13 for a single G&T). The staff were very strict (to the point of being rude) of not allowing alcohol from the bar areas to the room so we couldn’t even order at the bar and bring it back to our room. This was very disappointing especially given the cost of the hotel. SERVICE SERVICE SERVICE. Rixos just doesn’t have it. There’s a lack of motivation by the staff to provide helpful and personalised service. The main bar area where everyone goes to at night is dismally under staffed. There is no management in restaurants when you’re struggling to get served and because it’s all inclusive, it feels like there is no motivation from the staff as they’re not getting tips. We were tipping and still struggled! If you compare this to Ikos it’s a different level the staff are all incredible and make you feel so special. Kids pool - at Rixos some of the water features didn’t work and there’s holes in the pool where equipment used to be and has been taken away. It was very tired. Kids club - there were lots of Russian families so lots of the kids club and songs were in Russian so our son struggled to follow. Given that Ikos is mainly aimed at European families most of the clubs are all in English which is helpful. Reception - some of the rudest people I’ve met in hospitality. The front of house are meant to be the pinnacle of the hotel. I would have mentioned some of the frustrations I’d had at check out but I was never asked how my stay was. We were simply asked for our credit card and room keys. In Ikos they check in with you half way through the holiday to see how it’s going, great to touch base with the Ikos staff and give feedback. This doesn’t happen at Rixos. Weather - the only thing that Rixos has going for it in the European Winter. Cost - circa the same? Rooms - in the Rixos rooms sockets were broken and there were often things that had to be fixed throughout the stay. In Ikos the rooms are very modern and don’t feel tired. Communication - I emailed numerous times prior to arrival with questions. Chasing constantly. In the end I had to google and find the sales managers email and send it to her to get a response. We came back to the hotel as we had fond memories from 2 years ago but this trip completely underwhelmed us. I don’t know whether Ikos has spoilt us or this has really dropped in standards (potentially both) but a hugely disappointing stay for us. Read less
