The hotel

Every bit as palatial as the name suggests, Emirates Palace is fit for royalty. Its private beach, marina and bay give an air of intimate seclusion, while the location, on the Corniche in the heart of Abu Dhabi, says otherwise. Under 114 ornate domes, each 18 metres high, this regal retreat hosts elegant guest rooms, each with sensational views and 24-hour butler service. A truly indulgent spa (we’re talking gold body and beauty treatments), and 12 restaurants, cafés, lounges and bars serving cuisines from world-renowned chefs. Even its gardens are majestic, with 85 hectares promising tranquil strolls, yoga and two temperature controlled swimming pools: one for relaxation and the other for fun. The crown of Emirates Palace is its dining, from Arabic cuisine at Lebanese Terrace, to the award-winning Mezzaluna Italian restaurant. With many of Abu Dhabi's main attractions within a short distance, including superb shopping destinations and impressive cultural and heritage sites, Emirates Palace provides guests with the perfect place to explore the beauty and charm of the UAE's capital.

Superb afternoon tea experience at the Episodes lounge. The food was amazing with more courses than expected and the service provided by Rhyn and Rian was exceptional. Highly recommend for a fantastic relaxing afternoon

We have visited Abu Dhabi for the last few years and this is our second stay at the hotel. We had previously stayed at the St Regis Saadyihat for a number of years, but had such a good experience last year at the MO, we rebooked this year. We have also stayed at other MO hotels and resorts (ie 4 times in the last 12 months), so have a good idea of levels of service and the extra things that usually make the MO a great choice for us. We consider ourselves reasonable in our expectations, but unfortunately this stay felt a bit flat when compared to our previous visit (and compared to other MO properties) for the following reasons: 1. The beach was dirty with rubbish on two occasions. This is not acceptable. 2. The gym on the wing we were was much older than the new gym on the other wing (I understood from last year that they were upgrading both?). 3. We were told at check-in that we would have late check-out guaranteed and mentioned that we had a late flight so anything they could do to help would be done. When we went to reconfirm one day prior to departure, we were told there was no late check-out and we weren’t entitled to same. After approx 20 mins of discussions and saying we were not entitled etc, we eventually had a 3pm check-out provided to us. We totally understand the hotel was full, but that was a different expectation and we had to adjust our plans accordingly. 4. When enquiring about restaurant bookings, we were told no availability in one restaurant for that evening. However, when we walked past the restaurant, we enquired in person and were seated for our desired time. 5. We had some early morning appointments and rang ahead that morning to the concierge so that a taxi would be ready for us on two occasions. On both occasions when we eventually got to the front reception there was no record of the taxi being ordered and we had to wait 15 mins or so, which put us under needless pressure to make meetings. 6. The breakfast was a little disorganised. We would ask for water or coffee, and it was never provided or one would be provided without the other. We were skipped in the line to get a table - and while that certainly is another guest being rude, I would have expected the staff to be on top of that sort of thing. 7. At breakfast we were provided with a bill to sign on one or two mornings, despite our breakfast being included. Other mornings we were not provided with any bill to sign. Was this so we could tip staff (which is fine - and we did) but why the inconsistency and what was the correct approach from the hotel? 8. There were other things we felt were missing or lacking from last year and other MO properties (eg turn down was simply just that to the bed sheets, no beach bag or sun hat in the rooms, fruit was gone off one one occasion in the fruit bowl). It just didn’t feel as special which is a shame. All in all, we were disappointed with the stay vis-a-vis other MO properties and last year’s stay. We want to ensure our breaks are as special as possible, and unfortunately have lost confidence in this property and will look to another hotel when booking our next stay in Abu Dhabi for next year.
