However, it’s an old property, with screeching floors, gaps between doors, that allow lizards to come in and old furniture and bathroom facilities. The food at the bar and a la carte restaurants is good, if you are not on all inclusive premium package it will cost you. The food in the main restaurant is average, the selection is poor. Beware that the island is about 25 minutes boat ride and another 30 minutes flight away from Male. Make sure you are not sent away from the island too early, like we were and end up waiting for your flight for 5-6 hours in an old and very simplistic airport. We were promised a lounge to compensate for the wait, but it turned to be a food court access. Read less

We saw reef sharks, rays, turtles and lots of different fish. We also liked a cosy spot in front of the restaurant with beach cabana by the sea. The selection food at the main restaurant had a good variety. All the staff was very friendly and always very helpful, especially our battler Rawaah. We tried one of the excursions Wonderlust and had a great experience, it lasts for about 3 hours and you get to swim with turtles, visit one of the reef side and a sandbank. Overall, it was a great value stay and we would consider coming back in the future! Read less

We spent 8 days in this tropical paradise, and the experience exceeded our expectations. Upon arriving to the Island your dedicated host greets you. During your stay you can count on your host, answering any of your questions and solving all of your problems. Our wonderful host, Noble, made his best to make our stay comfortable. The island: The island itself is approx. 800 m long. The vegetation is very rich, you can walk almost everywhere on shady walkways. The villas: Our standard beachfront villa was 57 sqms, which is perfect for a couple. The condition and the design of the interior is totally ok. Your terrace is 15-20 meters from the sea, and it depends on you if you want to position your sunbed to the shiny beach or under the shady trees. Meal plan: Our meal plan was premium all inclusive, that contains really almost everything. Once a day you can eat á la cart in the beachfront Raabondi restaurant (excellent courses, our waiter, Nirmal was wonderful). International wines, beers and spirits are also part of the plan, you can enjoy excellent high quality cocktails and mocktails in the Boli Bar. The minibar in the villa was beyond our expectations too. Besides soft drinks and nuts, you also have an international selection of alcholic beverages: spanish beer, white wine and Diplomatico rum (all included in premium all inclusive). If you stay at least 7 nights with this plan, you also get free activities (dolphin spotting, sunset fishing, spa treatment etc.) The sea Yes, the colour is that blue. A wave breaker runs almost everywhere around the island. You can go snorkelling either inside or outside the wave breaker. The majority of corals is unfortunately already dead, but you can still find some living piece. In spite of this the underwater life is very rich and colourful. Reefsharks are everyday experience and we were lucky enough to meet turtles and sting ray more than once during our stay. Besides, we saw around 20-30 different fish species. Summarizing Royal Island is a wonderful experience (if you are lucky with the weather) and one of the best price-value ratio resorts in the Maldives. Read less
