Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and Spa - Handwritten Collection

Nusa Dua, Bali

Virgin rating

The hotel

Living up to its ‘authentically Bali’ mantra, Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and Spa - Handwritten Collection feels like a reincarnated Balinese palace. Every element’s lavish, with its three exquisite tree-fringed pools, sumptuous spa, gym, and seven bars and restaurants all adding to the fantastical feel. But nothing’s quite as regal as its grounds, where tropical greenery spills over balconies, tumbles through gardens, and comes to rest on the pure white sands of its beach. The effect’s a serene setting for garden tours, coconut leaf weaving, and traditional dance classes – and for Gecko Club’s child-focused island experiences. Inside its nine hectares, a dramatic temple-like structure splits to reveal an elaborate lily pond festooned with water features; Balinese guest rooms (including Butler-served Club rooms) divulge garden, pool, or beach scenes; and the incredible bamboo web of its double-decked brasserie opens up to hypnotic Indian Ocean views.

The resort provided an great New Years pre reception and fabulous entertainment although delayed due to the rain. Although there was plenty of staff, we found the service to be slow and lacking at times plus the difficulty in securing restaurant bookings whilst the hotel was full made me rate this four stars instead of five but we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay here. In addition be warned that there are compulsory buffet dinners every Monday, Wednesday and Friday so if you are only staying for five nights you are forced to have the buffet for three nights, which wasn’t the best quality. In addition the booking system for the restaurants is chaotic and has to be done at the lobby. Walk-ins are frowned upon and they will tell you the restaurant is full when it clearly isn’t. Once you finally do get a table in one of the three restaurants then the food is actually good. We would not stay here again. Also not enough pools for the size of the resort, too packed and busy all the time, could never find a lounge. They need another pool. Read less

Spent 15 days at Nusa Dua beach resort and spa with my wife in a Palace Club Lagoon access room and we where not disappointed. The hotel offers such a wilde range of food choices at the buffet breakfast although as a Palace Club guest we had table service in the Palace lounge which is slightly less diverse but still a fantastic menu. On top of the table service for breakfast, we also had afternoon tea with a wide range of nibbles and drinks and also free evening cocktails in the Palace lounge. The hotel also offers some fantastic on site restaurants, we tried them all and loved mugaro the most. Close to the hotel is Bali collection which you can either take the free shuttle bus or as we done, walk, as it's only about a 15 minute walk each way, although we did have to get a bluebird back once or twice due to weather and also the amount of shopping my wife bought! All in all I highly recommend Nusa Dua Beach resort and cannot wait to get back again in October, we booked again while in the hotel as we where that impressed with the services. Read less
