The hotel

Your unspoilt slice of paradise, Bequia is rustic yet refined, and remote yet reachable. Just a quick flight from Barbados it couldn’t be further from their tourist trappings – and Bequia Beach Hotel is the very epitome of its untouched beauty. Hidden away in tropical gardens of almond trees, mangos, limes, and papaya, cradling two stunning pools  - one of which being a brand new saltwater infinity pool - it’s not content with just sitting along the glorious sands of Friendship Beach, there's also nearby Princess Margaret Beach, where you can sit above cashmere sands at Jack’s Beach Bar, gazing out at distant boats. A complete one-off, the hotel’s filled with the owner’s travel mementoes, has unparalleled views of distant Grenadine islands, and brings you unforgettable dining by the beach at Bagatelle.

The people are lovely - so cheerful and helpful. Reception, room, pool, bar, grounds and overall ambiance are also great and the beach is beautiful white sand. However, there are two flies in the ointment. First - flying from the UK, don't assume you will get there in a single day. Bequia airport is not lit, so if you get any delay to your transfer from UK, you'll have to stay overnight elsewhere. Then, the next day flight to Bequia from Barbados leaves quite late, so almost another day is lost. Repeat stayers we spoke to now always plan on it taking two days to get there. Second - the food service in the Bagatelle restaurant is really poor. Breakfast - you get taken to your seat and asked what you want to drink but nothing turns up. When you do get something, you will continually have to chase for a refill. The breakfast buffet is almost always lacking plates, bowls and glasses, as is the bread for toast. Dinner is almost worse - courses come out of order, can take 45+ minutes to arrive, drinks don't arrive until you've nearly finished your main course and I got a least one plateful that was more school dinner than restaurant quality. I spoke to a number of other guests and their experience was much the same. And yet everyone is so cheerful and helpful! How can the service be so bad when there is such a cheerful workforce? Rather spoilt our holiday. Read less

The breakfast buffet was excellent. It even included cappucino. When we arrived, we were greeted with a rum drink. The staff was so helpful in arranging dinner reservations and taxis. There is a daily shuttle to Princess Margaret Bay and the Hotel-owned Jack's Bar on the beach, where we had lunch. We had mentioned that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and we were surprised by a beautifully arranged congratulatory floral arrangement in our room one day. We also enjoyed the small Italian restaurant -Blue Tropic. I can't say enough about how nice Bequia Beach Hotel is - I can't think of one negative thing about this place! Read less

Paradise!! 7 night stay here and it was wonderful! Located on the quieter side of the island but a short taxi ride takes you over to Port Elizabeth to the restaurants, bars and shops. Beautiful hotel sitting on Friendship Bay, immaculate gardens, grounds, pool and beach areas. Bagatelle restaurant & bar overlooking beach serves breakfast lunch and dinner of a high standard. Staff are friendly and efficient, obviously staff training a high priority Reception area staff are extremely professional, charming and very helpful and knowledgeable of things to do on the island and beyond. They easily get taxis when you need and they are charged to your room. The Sand Bar which is a short walk along the beach is a great lunch & drink spot, staff excellent and you can charge back to your room as you can at Jacks Bar in Port Elizabeth on Princess Margaret Beach. Bequia beach hotel is a Caribbean gem on a beautiful unspoilt island. We will certainly return and thoroughly recommend it! Read less
