The hotel

When you arrive at the front of the Soco House, you'll feel like you've been transported to South Beach, where vintage Art Deco architecture meets contemporary sophistication. The white and blue theme gives it a breezy, beach vibe and will have you chilling out on the sand in no time. Positioned in the island's leading tourist location, you've got shops, bars, restaurants and excursions right on the doorstep, but you'll have to drag yourself away from this stylish hotel first. The pool bar is the perfect place to chill with a cocktail, or indulge the senses at the spa with a massage - the choice is yours. The food is nothing short of exceptional, with an intimate vibe in the restaurant that is reflected all over the hotel - this really is the place to be seen this year!

My first time to the beautiful island of St Lucia, and it did not disappoint. Such a beautiful island. Soco House is situated in the Gros Inlet area, on Rodney Bay. A small hotel, which appears to be in operation for a number of years based on the condition, but overall in good repair. Who made the stay such a good experience were notably Saf and Vaughan at the bar. Davaugne, Jane, Daina and Sharline on the wait staff were very helpful as well. The food was delicious and well presented. Dinners typically offered 5 separate options over 3 courses of meal. Dinner options changed up every 3-4 days, allowing for some variance in food choices. The breakfast menu was the same, with relatively slow service, but for us it was a relaxing breakfast. Food was well prepared and tasty. More options in getting an early morning coffee would have been helpful. ie coffee station or someone manning an espresso maching would have been nice. Th hotel bars close at 10, which made for an early end to the evening. However you could go to the restaurant district down the street which had bars open later. The rooms were clean and comfortable, however a bit run down. There were no shower doors, which allowed water to spill out over the dated bathroom. Everything in the room worked well and was comfortable. The balcony door was wood, an creaked open and looked like it could have been made to fit better. The sunbeds at the pool were left out several times during the rain storms, and didnt appear to be in good repair. There were personnel moving the cushions in a out but they had stains on them, so we avoided them. Pool was in good condition and clean, however small. The beach is a short walk and unfortunately once there, the beach looked a bit sketchy, with approaching vendors. The Royalton hotel has acquired property along the beach and is apparently in the beginning stages of renewal. A quite can be annoying and disruptive, which is a common occurance in the Caribbean. This was a small boutique hotel and the price made it affordable as St. Lucia has always been way out of reach with my budget. Our room was adequate, however all rooms on the 2nd floor do not have any balconies or access to an outside sitting area. We were on the 2nd floor unfortunately. The restaurant was our biggest issue. First off let me say that I am a go with the flow, easily pleased, hey I'm at the beach so don't sweat the small stuff kind of person. But .....Every meal is a la carte and only changes every second day for each meal. So if you don't like anything on that menu, you are out of luck for 2 days. I can always eat pasta if nothing else but everytime it was made with hot sauce. The time between courses was way too long, sometimes up to 40 minutes from your salad till your main course is received and it is cold. I get the idea not having buffets at ever meal however once in a while would be good. Lunchtime could be more laid back with better choices. No entertainment means this is a very quiet place. More entertainment is needed. My husband doesn't drink alcohol so there was very little options for him with regards to beverages. The general manager (Edmond I think his name was) was going around on a regular basis asking if things were ok, however little was done. If there was an issue. Won't be back here, should have paid more money and stayed across the street at the Bay Gardens Resort where we heard the food was exceptional. Read less

Fun boutique hotel with a lot of promise!! All the staff are excellent, true professionals and fun :) Great location, close to everything in the Rodney Bay area. Would have gladly given 5 stars, but the rooms could use updating and it does get loud in the courtyard in the early morning and evening.

THE GOOD Comfy beds Good air conditioning Friendly, helpful staff for the most part (some reception staff not so helpful) Lovely outdoor bar area in centre of hotel Meeting lovely likeminded people 5 minute walk to the beach Provision of a cooler box with drinks and towels to take to the beach THE BAD Probably only a 3 star hotel Cabanas very tatty, some not even in use. Only able to request late check out on last day, although happy to pay for extension, being given until 2pm only to have it rescinded later and changed to 1pm. Although room was not cleaned until 4pm and no new arrivals by 4.30pm Shower average with water just a trickle Being asked for money by Dawain (The one) to dig a hole for an umbrella at the beach - who takes money to the beach Not having a bowl of fresh fruit available and no snacks at the bar. THE UGLY The food - so so disappointing. Although this is an all inclusive with a menu the meals were so bad we had to eat elsewhere. We tried dinner 3 times, just to give it a fair go - cold food, lots of bones in the goat and generally of a low standard of precooked dishes. Even breakfast was average with the juice not being fresh and more cordial style, the toast was like cardboard and the servings of butter were miserly and to top it all received undercooked fried eggs on our last day. They ran out of jam for the toast, ran out of sauvignon blanc wine which doesn't all add up to a great experience. The beach - Continually being approached by people at the beach trying to sell you something Read less

Barry’s chocolate martinis are fantastic and he will make delicious, unique cocktails that are not on the menu. The food was delicious and well presented. The breakfast menu is repetitive however, with breakfast and lunch there were never any problems making substitutions or additions. Chef Cameron and his team do a great job. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere of the hotel. Bars close at 10 and 11 but notice was always given and you can get beer, water and soft drinks to take back to your room. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Not all rooms have a balcony and ours unfortunately did not. The sunbeds at the pool need updating. The beach is a short walk. We had no problems or concerns with safety. At the beach vendors were usually good accepting no for an answer. However there are quite a few so it can be annoying. But you get that every where. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will likely return. Read less
