Where is it

In the heart of the Riviera Maya, overlooking the award-winning white sands of Akumal Beach. Akumal, “place of turtles” in Mayan, is home to one of the largest green sea turtle populations in Mexico. Close to the area’s most unique sites including an authentic Mayan village, the world’s largest underground river and just 20 minutes from the famous Playa del Carmen. Close to Tulum Ecological Site. The world’s second largest barrier reef sits just 150 metres off the resort’s beach. Transfer time from Cancun Airport: 60 minutes.

We have visited many Secrets Resort in Mexico and thought the Caribbean . Secrets Akumal is our new favourite Secrets Resort!! The property is beautiful, lush and so well maintained. The beach is beautiful and perfect for walking, swimming and, of course, snorkelling. There are more than enough chairs for those who want sun or shade (the most palapas we have seen at any Secrets). The pools were a great temperature....perfect for a swim!! Our check-in (and out) was so quick and easy. Our room (preferred club swim out) was clean, well maintained and well appointed (lots of storage!!). During our 12 night stay we were fortunate enough to have the time to try all of the Restaurants, including the Greek restaurant and enjoyed our meal at all of them. We like to eat at prime time (between 7 - 8 pm) and never had any longer than a 30 minute wait...usually less. Loved all but one restaurant had beautifully appointed outdoor seating (as well as indoor). The entertainment was excellent....we loved the daytime vocalists around the pool during the day and in the evenings as well. We loved the preferred club....the food, drinks and service are the very best we have had at any Secrets. We had snacks and drinks during the day and loved having a pre-dinner cocktail on the outdoor patio during the evening. The best thing about Secrets Akumal (like all Secrets Resorts) is the service!!! The people that work here give their all. You will not get better anywhere!! We ordered room service at midnight after a long day and the food was excellent. Beef and Chicken Quesadillas from room service were excellent. Breakfast was incredible every day at the preferred Surfside Grill’s Chef Maria and suggestions from Balthazar, as were the lunches. The beach service and menu were also excellent. The greatest area for improvement are the dinner restaurants. Santorini was mediocre as were the tapyanaki tables. The French and Italian restaurants were good but the kitchen struggled cooking for both restaurants. Feature more great Mexican food and lose the international restaurants.
