Overall we had a wonderful experience at Sandals South Coast. This was our first trip to Jamaica and also our first trip to a Sandals resort. The trip from the airport is a bit long, about an hour and a half on a 20 passenger bus that goes through the interior of Jamaica and through some small towns and rough roads, so be prepared for that. But it was also an interesting way to see Jamaica for what it is and not just the tourist areas. But this also gets you down to the South Coast of Jamaica, which is a bit quieter and more secluded than staying up near Montego Bay or Ocho Rios. At the resort, we stayed in a Butler level suite in the Starlight Village (what used to be the Dutch Village, and the resort still even has the old names on the signs). Our butlers Tavoy and Khani were absolutely the pinnacle of the experience, so friendly and helpful and had us always set up with everything we needed. Just for them alone we would happily return! But honestly everyone at the resort was super friendly and helpful. The resort itself is quite large with plenty of beach front, a few pools to choose from (including the enormous main pool), and plenty of tiki huts and umbrellas to sit under on the beach. You can also take advantage of included water sports like sailing, kayaking, and water skiing, all at no extra charge. Restaurants overall were very good for an all inclusive resort, and the drinks were obviously all included, including liquor in your room if you have a Butler level suite. Each day there is a new drink of the day that usually includes some mix of tropical/island flavors. Otherwise there are “top shelf” liquors (think Tanqueray, Jack Daniel’s, Skyy Vodka, etc… basically your mid level name brand stuff), Red Stripe beer, and options for wine and champagne. The restaurants also have wine lists with higher level bottles that do cost extra if you’re looking for something a little better than the Twin Oaks house wine that is included. Our room in the Dutch Village (now called Starlight) was maybe a little dated but certainly fit the vibe of Jamaica and was comfortable with a nice king bed, couch, indoor and outdoor tub, and spacious shower. Walking to the main area with the restaurants is 5 minutes or less for most rooms, and you’re sure to run across any of the resort’s fun assortment of peacocks and cats. During our stay, we visited the Red Lane Spa for a massage which was fantastic. We also took advantage of the included Scuba diving which is a big reason we opted to try a Sandals resort. This alone saved us hundreds of dollars and you can dive every day if you want! In addition we joined one of the sunset catamaran cruises which was also a great time. We had a bit of an issue with being charged a different amount for the cruise than our original reservation (due to an issue with the payment system and the resort literally changing the price of the cruise the day before we arrived), but after some back and forth with the tour desk and the front desk, we were finally able to get the original price honored. All in all we had a wonderful experience at Sandals South Coast and would definitely return and/or check out the Sandals throughout the Caribbean. Highly recommended! Read less

We stayed here for 7 nights, for our 45th nights/ Emerald status celebration with Sandals. The ride over from the airport was super scary on a super small 2 direction curvy highway. The driver was driving so fast and passing a lot, I was feeling sick and he was right on people's tale end of their car, I thank God we made it! When we finally arrived, we were welcomed by very nice staff and then we got upgraded to club level. We were somewhat happy with our stay and super satisfied with the room. The only negative was Eleanors breakfast, we waited over a half hour for breakfast and it was very cold. We noticed not many people went there..We met people who had the same experience as us. People showed for breakfast after we did and was eating and leaving before us. Breakfast at the buffet was a wait for so long we had 10 couples behind us waiting and 5 couple before us to sit and there was a LOT of open tables. Dinning was a hit and miss here at this resort. The beach was nice and always seats available, could hear construction all day.. Scuba diving was good, and all the staff was nice, just not as personal as it use to be, no help with gear, pretty much on your own. Use to show for diving, and all the gear was on the tanks, ready to go, and we would be asked to check it. During our stay, we were able to meet the Ambassador couple during our stay! They have been coming to Sandals before it was Sandals! We went on an excursion with them and they were super nice to talk to. Overall out of all the Sandals I will most likely not visit this Sandals. We feel the personal touch is not as personal as it use to be, service is not so good here, and the road is horrendous and to not a comfortable ride.. but overall we feel Southcoast was okay.. This was the perfect place for our honeymoon. The weather is perfect for a winter escape from reality! The food was brilliant all week. Good selection at the buffet breakfast in Bayside. The only time we felt disappointed with the food was when we visited Giuseppes for dinner. The food directly from the kitchen was great, but the anti pasti on the side had been left for too long. Breadsticks were soft and bread was hard. But I heard the pizza at lunch time was great. We stayed for 7 days and felt no need to book any excursions during our stay because there was plenty to do and look at. The watersports included at Sandals are excellent. We enjoyed snorkelling, water skiing, paddle boarding, kayaking and we took a hobie out for the first time. I've read a lot of poor reviews about the seagrass on the coastline here. Personally, we went KNOWING this and read about it beforehand. It's a conservation area, which we fully appreciated. It does not stop you from being able to paddle in the water and we saw some people snorkelling directly from the beach. I think we struck gold with our dates because the Sandals Global Conference was being held while we were there, which meant all sunbeds and restaurant bookings etc were pretty open for the majority of our stay. We did notice it getting much busier before we left and it was midday by the time we wanted a sunbed towards the end of our stay and we couldn't find one. Which is understandable! We chilled by the beach instead. We booked a couples massage at Red Lane and Bent and Dorothy were incredible! I like a deep tissue massage, my Husband, not so much! Dorothy gave me the deepest massage I have ever had. Exactly what I needed! And Bent gave my Husband exactly the right amount of pressure. We left feeling like we'd actually had a massage...which, for me, is quite difficult to find in the UK! We took a room upgrade to a Club Sandals swim up room, but honestly, we didn't use room service or any of the other perks you get with Club Sandals really. Maybe when we're still visiting in our retirement years! The swim up was great though. Coffee and sunshine in the morning with your feet in the pool and looking out to sea is the BEST feeling! All Staff were good. Could maybe do with a little progress in some areas, but overall it was great. We thoroughly enjoyed the steel drums one evening. That was really special, especially as we didn't leave the resort. It helped us feel like we had experienced a portion of Jamaican culture. We loved the Sandals experience and booked again through the loyalty desk before we left - which is testament to our stay. We're also looking to take the kids to one of the Beaches resorts so they can experience a similar holiday to the one we're just had! Read less
