Catalonia Montego Bay

No Jamaican atmosphere and we could have been anywhere in Europe based on that and the music played!! the so called entertainment was shocking and not engaging, no wonder no one wanted to get up on our visit. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone from UK because it’s not worth the 10hr travelling time to get to this particular resort at this moment in time. Suppose you get what you pay for and I wish I’d booked one of the Riu resorts since speaking to some couples they had a fantastic experience at there resorts. Only positive I have from our first visit to Jamaica and this particular resort was that the place was kept clean and most the staff where very nice. Read less

Great location and the outside areas are kept very clean. Entertainment throughout the day was zero, not a parch on the Bahia Principe in Runaway Bay. Night enternment was poor and finished at 10pm. There were no areas to watch the night entertainment, you basically had to sit on a sunbed or plastic chairs from the restaurant. There were no chairs around the pool areas to sit on. We bought a cake for my mother in laws 70th and let the staff know well in advance when to give it her, the staff in the Italian restaurant lost it!! Keeping with the Italian restaurant, the staff were inept, and the manager was even worse. The Japanese restaurant was top class, the chef David was great entertainment, a very good experience.in this restaurant. Overall, the Holiday wasn't too bad, bar service could do with some efficiency, communial TV areas were not allowed any sound, very strange, and some of the staff could do with a smile on their face. The Holiday was only 3 star so Iyou get what you pay for. Will return to Jamaica, but not to the Catalonia. Read less

I would never return to this resort. The staff was very ignorant and not nice. When we attempted to ask any questions to any of the staff, their response was short and they seem aggravated that we asked any type of question. When we arrived, it was extremely hot and humid, and the line to check in was outside of the building in the direct sun. It took us two hours just to check in. We were hot and sweating and we’re only offered a glass of punch or water that was warm because there was no ice available. While in my room I slipped on water because the water pressure in the sink was extremely high so water splashed on the floor. While I was turning to get the towel, my ankle slipped on the water that piled on the floor from the faucet and its high pressure. My ankle swelled up and when I asked for ice, they said I had to see the nurse and refused to give me ice. Sadly, I couldn’t get my own ice because none of the ice machines in the resort were working. After seeing the nurse, she said she could only give me a wrap for my ankle if I paid for an x-ray. I told her I didn’t think I should have to pay for an x-ray because I slipped on their floor. They then called Security who came and said they had to do an investigation. After walking them to my room and showing them where I slipped on the floor, they said “that was your own fault” and refuse to give me ice or an ace bandage. When I asked them how I could get an ace bandage they said to take Transportation to a pharmacy up the block and wanted to charge me $30 to drive me there to get a three dollar ace bandage and come back. Because they stated that there were no ace bandages on the property for sale. After being in so much pain and the swelling not going down I decided to walk down to the gift shop to see if I could buy ice and that’s when I saw an ace bandage for sale in the store so I bought that myself paying seven dollars for it. Blaming a customer that just paid almost $4000 for her daughter and son to go to their resort for our own vacation was a disgrace. It’s not like I was going to sue them or call the police all I wanted was an ace bandage or a baggie of ice for my swollen ankle that was triple the size! So basically they said it was my own fault and refused to supply a baggie of ice! Dinner food was not good. My understanding there would be food available 24 seven because it was all inclusive, which was not the case. I cannot believe that NONE of the staff members were approachable or kind. At no point did any of them even smile or say hello. Which made it, awkward and uncomfortable most of the time. There were 3 people that stood outdoor during the vacation. One was the cook for breakfast and her name was Chrissy. She was phenomenal, sweet and accommodating. Number two was Simone the lady who helped us book our excursions because we wanted to get out of the resort, hoping we could meet some pleasant people outside of the resort. The third person was our maid, who cleaned our room each day. While making a purchase at the gift shop during my stay, I made a purchase for $98٫99. Their machines weren’t working so they said they were going to charge it to my room, which was fine. While checking out, they told me I had to pay $108. I explained to them that I only charged $98٫99 to the room and she said if I couldn’t supply the receipt or had time to wait for a manager, which I did not because our ride was there to take us to the airport, that I had to pay it. I understand it’s only eight dollars and some change, but if I didn’t owe it, I shouldn’t have had to pay it. It kind of felt like a scam to get more money out of me. Very run down, rooms in terrible shape and not cleaned properly, smelled musty, no screens on patio doors, bathroom shower was filthy, booked a deluxe oceanfront room, advertised with mini bar but no mini bar in the room, you could barely drag a smile out of any staff, asked for 3 burnt out bulbs in bathroom to be changed, never got changed. As a consistent visitor to the Catalonia properties, for this to be our very first stay at the Catalonia Montego Bay, the customer service overall was 10/10. The staff at BLoved were simply amazing. Our first night Dean was our server. He made great recommendations and the presentation and customer service were 10/10. Then Shion was our server during our stay for breakfast everyday. She knew our requests from cappuccino and creams to our preference on menu items and made great suggestions from the menu. Her service and hospitality made BLoved our daily spot for any meals. On our last day Shion was not on shift but we had Daina. She picked up right where Shion left off and knew what items to bring my husband before he met me for breakfast. And before it began to pour down rain she shifted us inside of the restaurant from the patio because she could feel the weather change and rain coming. Thank you to the BLoved chefs and serving staff for making our experience feel grand every single time we showed up. It did not go unnoticed. Great for couples and or to bring your family with you. The food was 10/10 everyone on the resort. And it had enough activities to hang out and turn up but also allowed for peace and quiet and relaxation. It was on my list to visit this location as we normally stay in the Mexico and Dominican Republic locations. The rooms may not have been the same option wise to choose from but the service, hospitality and food more than made up for it. Would not deter me from coming back because I didn't have a swim up pool. It would only add to the experience. Read less
