The hotel

You will instantly feel relaxed when you stay at the Bay Hotel. The hotel is chilled out and contemporary but manages to combine luxury with a relaxed, informal atmosphere, a perfect beachfront retreat. Occupying the coolest location in Cape Town, in the very heart of the trendy suburb of Camps Bay, you can sip on a sundowner whilst overlooking the white sandy beach. In addition to the spectacular view, the hotel is in the middle of the Camps Bay ‘strip’ dotted with bars and restaurants where Cape Town’s ‘in-crowd’ just must be seen. All of this and only a few minutes from the Table Mountain cableway and just 15 minutes from the V&A Waterfront and downtown. Back on site, there are four beautiful pools to lounge by and Bistro at The Bay, serves up a feast of gourmet delights. Afterwards, relax in the sophisticated elegance of Caamil’s Bar and Caamil, the best barman you will find in Cape Town.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel. So clean (our room was cleaned twice in one day with water topped up etc). The pool area was perfect and the beds are great quality. There are hotel rubber rings in the pool. Everything really is 5 star. The location is absolutely perfect with stunning views of the lions head and the beach. The staff go so out of their way for you. We were served by Nokubonga D and she was soooo lovely. She made our stay so perfect! Thank you Nokubonga. We hope to see you again next time Breakfast is great with good coffee, mimosas, fresh omlettes and waffles etc. the whole lot! Everything you would want. We ate in the restaurant for lunch and by the pool and both times the food was wonderful. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel! Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Terrible service and the rooms come with 6am-10pm Padel noise and disturbance

We had booked this 5 star hotel for 4 nights at the end of a holiday in Cape Town. What a disappointment. The hotel can best be described as all front and no substance with poor service and staff with poor attitudes and a couldn’t care less demeanor. With the exception of the always helpful security team. Our ‘Mountain View’ room looked into the air conditioning, a green tin roof and noisy Padel and tennis courts in use from 6am until 10pm, lovely watching half dressed sweaty people grunting and shouting from our minuscule balcony. We complained, twice but were basically told that it was hard luck and also that Padel did not start until 9am. Being lied to and given a poor room and then being treated to a couldn’t care less attitude? Hardly 5 star. Breakfast quality was the worst out of all the hotels we stayed in as well as the poorest service. When I asked for second pot of tea it was as though I was asked for a bottle of champagne and twice the staff member shook the pot to ensure it really was empty which was unbelievable! Hard croissants and poor quality sausages, bacon and eggs were in evidence daily. We tried the bar once. When asking for a red wine they seemed surprised and even more so when asked what they had that was non alcoholic- Heineken 0 was the answer- when asked if there was anything else a rude no was the reply. Surely a decent barman could have a few mocktails to offer- every other hotel did. Except ‘’The Bay’. Service with a sneer. And don’t expect to be offered drinks when sitting by the pool- we were ignored for about 4 hours. A joke. We won’t be returning and suggest you think twice unless all you are after are Instagram photos. Read less

The staff were friendly and made sure all our needs were met. Breakfast selection was extensive and thoroughly enjoyed the food. For someone coming from the UK, bar and food prices were very reasonable and quality really good. Didn't make extensive use of but the bar areas were well designed and looked nice places to spend an evening. 4 pools & numerous sunbeds meant plenty of space for everyone. Read less
